Even I am running out of patience

Sadly, I'm not sure of the remedy.
Even if Alvin is fired Monday, then what?
It's a crapshoot. And in any event, winning is a long way off.
Can you imagine the reaction if this franchise manages to squander two No. 1 draft choices in less than 5 years?
I'm going to try to be just a little more optimistic,
for the sake of mental health.

All the future picks we have gives us hope to maintain an exciting future to go along with the young guys on the team. The weaknesses are pretty obvious already. Just need to make the changes soon (this offseason)

How can anyone be down on the long term future right now?
Most of the season Ingram has looked like an All Star and future top 10 player in the league.
In short bursts through 2 games Zion has looked like the transcendent player he's been billed as. On top of that you have no bad contracts on the books, plenty of assets and draft capital, and a new regime building a first class organization that is fully supported by management.
This is year 1 of a rebuild, technically it's the teardown year so more like year 0. We already have our foundation as set for the future as you can ask for. The only people that should be upset right now are those that can't see past this season and are expecting playoffs in, again, what is year 0 of a rebuild.

There’s only one thing that matters and that is figuring out the team around Zion and Ingram.
Future assets (ie not in this draft or even next) are of the utmost importance to try and acquire that future 3rd to a big 3.
Develop. Work combinations. Bring in smart veterans. Draft well.
Get a real coach.

Sorry to ask but is it possible for someone to post a quick summary of the picks we've obtained. I did lose a few brain cells.

It’s weird to be the one defending the regime when it seems like I only know your posts from being annoyingly apologetic about the current one. No offense.
But the team is in about the best position a rebuilding team could be in in the league.
A phenom prospect, a budding superstar wing, both that are controllable for at least 3-5 years. A healthy cap, veterans that can all fetch positive value in return, lots of great young role players/prospects with high ceilings and good value, an abundance of asset riches in the form of draft picks that all but guarantees we can basically have whichever disgruntled superstar we ultimately decide on to pair with the first two(and unlike the Demps era, when you get into the game of having the asset base to acquire top 15 talent, you don’t get into an Evans/Gordon untradeable situation unless catastrophic injury occurs).
And because of the first two, barring both suffering catastrophic injury, we are sort of still playing with house money. As we will be able to trade either of those before their contract is up if things go sideways and have yet another abundant opportunity with the haul they bring back.
The Pelicans are one of the more fortunate small market teams all things considered because landing a true top five player and one already treated as a future one has a cascading effect.
Long story short, we would have to epically, royally mess it up to fall into a place like the Hornets, Knicks, Pistons etc. Because it would just be so hard to squander the return the assets we have can fetch.

The remedy is patience. Coming into this season even with a healthy Zion I think most people were hoping for 8 maybe 7. Once again this season has been injury riddled. We lost 13 in a row and Zion has only played 2 games.
All we can do right now is let the front office see who plays right and plays well with Zion. See what moves need to be made at the deadline or in the off season. Come back next season, hopefully with a new coach better players and start trying to challenge for higher playoff seeding.

Patience with... ? Uncle Al is the problem, have you recognized that yet?

Yes gentry is a problem. But I think it's already known he will be here for the rest of the season. So just get used to that. In the off-season is when a change will be made. That's where the patience comes in.

Yeah, that's fine. I knew he would never be fired mid-season because of his relationship with Griffin. This season was never much of a concern for me. Competing for the eight seed is nice but Zion steadily improving is more important.
I'll be livid if Gentry is still the coach next year, though.

Dude. This is so weird to see you, of all people, saying this.
I understood people's lack of patience with the wait to see Zion. It was originally going to be 6-8 weeks, and then ...
But now we have seen Zion play and he's even more awesome than anyone could have expected. Yes, we lost two games, but we have many years of Zion dominance ahead of us, and it's going to be glorious.

Yeah me too. If he is coach next season I really think fans will go crazy. I don't see how they can justify bringing him back.

At some point, you should lose topic posting privileges. This is probably the time.

Watch some miraculous way, Gentry will find a way to sneak in as the 8 seed, and Griffin will keep him around.

We ain’t making that 8th seed.
And it still would not surprise me if Gentry was still the coach. If he is fired, give Becky Hammon five years and I bet, as long as our guys stay mostly healthy, we make the playoffs at least 3-4 times in those five years even though we’d still be technically in a rebuild

Chill and enjoy the lack of pressure. We should have no pressure to win
Posted on 1/25/20 at 7:16 pm to Upperdecker
All the future picks, plus older vets on the roster who will be traded. Heck even some young guys could be traded for the right price.
