Hoping Z gets "better" minutes tonight

If he's getting 18 again, let them be in the second half.
Start the third for 9. End the 4th with 9.
It's non-nonsensical to pull him out the second that he gets his HR up. Not really sure what they were thinking the other night.

Their plan seemed to be 4 minute bursts at the start of quarters so could come out after about 15-16 minutes, and then leave the normal closers to win the game. No matter how good Zion was expected to play, they don't want to throw in a rookie to the closing lineup if the game is close, and this seemed like a decent idea the first few quarters and I'm sure the fans who wanted a win wouldnt want a jittery Zion to close the first game
However, all this thought was before he scored 17 in 3 minutes, which threw a wrench into their plan

The 4 minute bursts thing doesn’t work with him as a starter imo.
Bring him off the bench but have him playing at times with various starters. Integrate him in.
When he can play 25+ then get him in the starting lineup.

Hard Disagree. I doubt they'rethinking this at all. He's the #1 overall pick. He's most hyped player since Lebron. He's supposed to be in at the end of the game, and should be.

I think it's more about not letting him play for 9-10 minutes at a time because the more tired your muscles are, the easier it is to get injured. So you play him in short 4 minute bursts so that he's never laboring on the court.
I personally would like to see about 20-25min a night, but I get the team's reasoning

I don't think it works period. That restriction, especially when you know it's coming, makes it impossible to get into a rhythm.
Lol, like he practically cant even get to the first TV timeout.

Why would that make sense?
Let the kid ease his way into the season

Sounded like the medical staff intervened and said “that’s enough”

For sure. I just don't see utility in spreading out his minutes the way they did the other night. Like he may as well just no be on the court until he can safely play more than 4 minutes at a time.
He didn't do shite until he was able to get into a rhythm at 5+ minutes.

I don't think they really care about his "rhythm" right now. They just want to get him in for short bursts of action to get him acclimated to playing again. This is basically his final form of rehab

If that's the case, then it's hurting the team. Which is way worse imo
Just let him get acclimated in 5-on-5 if that's whats going on.

This guy gets it. It is about injury prevention 1st and him gelling with the team 2nd. We may think he can go over 4 mins at a time but the medical staff set that threshold. I think (hope) it was so conservative due to it being his first game...they wanted to see if he had soreness after. With him feeling fine the next day, I hope they ramp up his minutes. Regarding starting him, we all agree it is hard to establish a rhythm. I think they know this but they are hoping to learn how the starters play together sooner rather than later. The trade deadline is rapidly approaching but our "needs" are conceptual at this point. They need to quickly determine if he and Favors can thrive together (if possible). We may end up "sacrificing" our playoff hopes but again, the goal is long term; we dont need to be short sited.

I agree. I wasn’t saying I liked their minute plan, but that’s what it is, a “medical” plan, his development is more important than current wins in their eyes.
I was saying that, with the 4 minute burst plan, they wouldnt want to start his minutes in the 4th with 4 minutes left to go in the game. So it makes it kind of impossible to both stick to the plan and finish the game

I really don't think that the team isn't trying to win. The players certainly aren't non-concerned with winning. Gentry certainly isn't non-concerned with winning. That's what makes this strategy so confusing to me. It actively hurts a team that's 3 back from the 8th seed with 40 games left.

They don't want to throw the number 1 overall pick, and most hyped play since lebron into the game in crunch time?
I understand the minutes restriction part, but they should work the minutes so that he could be in at the end of the game

Look, I want the team to win as much as possible, but really what does the 8th seed matter at all? Just means getting beat down by the Lakers, it's meaningless. This season doesn't matter as far as the playoffs go. The organizational goal for this season is not to be the 8th seed.

Not really sure what they were thinking the other night.
That being said, your plan to play 9 and 9 minutes in the 3rd/4th won't mesh with what the trainers are doing, so that won't happen.

You underestimate how much playoff experience will mean for our young guys
And as far as getting beat down by the Lakers, that wouldn't happen
They may win, but it wouldn't be in a sweep and definitely not a beat down.

I don't know what's so hard for everyone to understand
He has a fatigue restriction.. Whether they determine it to be 2 minutes or 6 (I don't see him playing more than that a burst), when he looks tired/fatigued they're pulling him

My point is it's not worth screwing with Zion's health plan just so the team can get the 8th seed this year.
Zion is 19, Ingram is 22, there is a long time frame here. They can get playoff experience next year.
