Dune 2020 already being compared to LOTR 20 yrs ago/Star Wars in '77

Apparently some footage was shown to some industry folks recently and one guy, a Sci fi writer, flipped out...
Although I don't think the film will have the mass popcorn appeal that those films did just based on Villanueve's style, I do think it may very well be the best epic Sci fi or Fantasy film since LOTR. Remember, Deakins is shooting this.

Its filmable, just no one put together a great cast along w a good script. Been one or the other but not both.
The whole rain crap, weirding module garbage, and portraying the harkonnens as cartoon buffoons ruined the first one.

Setting it up like that has already doomed it for failure. Or at least moderate success at best. Billing it as the next iconic franchise almost assures it won’t be.
