It’s not the wall, its the buyouts/real estate cost in NYC waterfront.

That is pretty high dollar real estate which Trump knows a lot about.

How much of the 200 billion is actual real estate costs? How much is construction costs?

Also, if we are protecting people and property, shouldn’t New Yorkers accept less for their property in exchange for protection.

If you look at it one way, we are going to build this wall that could increase property values now that it has some level of protection.

Also, how much in property are we actually protecting, New York is not New Orleans. There is some elevation in land in New York as you leave the shore.

After Sandy, there was some talk about needing something to protect the Subway system from flooding, but that shouldn’t cost 200 billion.

For 200 billion, someone could design something I would like to call the New York Harbor barrier plan. It would be a wall built off shore, it would start in Sandy Hook, NJ to Fort Tilden, New York. On the back side around the interstate 295 bridge where it crosses from Queens back to the mainland, you would have another structure.

It would be an environmental structure like the Dutch with gates to allow tidal flow, and a central floodgate. In looking at terrain and water depths, the system could be constructed of hard line structures with solid gates or water filled bags or balloons to close the gate. The balloon gate would be filled in times of approaching storms.

Liberals have such a bigoted view in wanting to wall off water.

These are the two important points, cost and rarity.

Libs love to try and disprove anything Trump says. If he said the sky is blue, they'd argue it was cyan.

I agree that a wall needs to be built all the way around NYC....15 feet tall electric wire with a razor wire top, guards with dogs patrolling it and spot lights moving back and forth at its base during the night. Did I mention no gates?

NYC will wait until a socialist Ecofreak is president and then get it funded as part of the GND. You don’t really think they can or will pay for it? Think CA high speed rail to no where.

Had a wonderful lady from the Boston area who turned their State Hazard Mitigation Plan into a total SJW/Climate Change activism document give a lecture at a national conference I attended last year.

She was a huge advocate of GCC and-at another lecture-spoke from the audience that folks in South Louisiana just needed to move away from Flood Zones, whether Coastal or Riverine.

Reading this thread made me think about our exchange at the 2nd lecture. I’m sure she would support simply moving everyone out of NYC in much the same manner she recommended Louisianians to do.

I’d rather dig a canal from the Mediterranean to open up a new sea in low lying areas of the Sahara Desert.

It is nearly identical to the MRGO built in New Orleans (also not a political item).
the MRGO is the canal. Are you talking about the St Bernard Barrier wall? If so the what is going on in New York is way different.

That already happened outside of New Orleans.
that's the lake borgne barrier... It is only 1.8 miles long. The St Bernard Barrier is around 14 miles. That's nothing like what you are comparing it to.
