I didn’t go through the whole thread, but is it common place for a local PD to go through the locker room celebration trying to enforce city law/ordinance?

When there are complaints about the obvious smoking yes

Did the fire marshall come shut things down?

No because they have the permits for the fireworks & the set up had been checked probably more than once by NOFD / Fire Marshall

So..... what you’re saying is that someone in the locker room either found or called the NOPD to come in b/c the LSU team were lighting cigars?

That, I find a tad hard to believe.

Why can’t people agree that OBJ was an embarrassing idiot AND that the cop is blowing this waaay out of proportion?

That cop was allegedly sent in to make them put out cigars and then went on to accuse players of drinking alcohol out of their Gatorade bottles. He was a bit overzealous and the majority of the country made fun of him for it when they saw the video. He’s only confirming that “mall cop” image by pressing charges.

OBJ’s behavior was out of line and I won’t defend his ridiculous, attention whore behavior. However, that cop is driving the stereotype of the black & white enforcement of laws without discernment and flexibility that frustrate many people.

Since OBJ is rumored to be gay, can't it be charged as felony sexual assault ? The runner got that charged when he slapped the reporter. Do the RICH get special treatment ?

Hopefully these links will somewhat clear up about the security guard/cop debate. After Googling it looks like SMG New Orleans runs the police force/public safety for the Superdome.

Here is an older article, but informative on who/what SMG New Orleans is/does: https://www.securitymagazine.com/articles/86734-donald-paisant-security-with-a-smile
quote:

One of SMG’s security assets is an armed public safety security force. “These people are in police-type uniforms and are commissioned by the superintendent of police of the New Orleans Police Department,” says Paisant. “They have arrest powers on our campus while they’re working, similar to a college campus police force. The NOPD will back us up and do any follow-up investigations.”

quote:

The campus itself is actually owned by the state of Louisiana, which has a board called the Louisiana Stadium Expedition District (LSED). SMG is a private company that manages public facilities and is hired by LSED to run sports venues to provide everything from security to housekeeping to field crew personnel. “We run it all, book the talent, book the events and work with the clients,” Paisant says.

The same patch is on the sleeve of the SMG NO cop in the video as is in these articles:
https://www.facebook.com/T3MotionInc/posts/t3-welcomes-kenneth-scott-the-smg-mercedes-superdome-the-most-iconic-facility-in/2231675580203190/?_fb_noscript=1

https://www.umcno.org/blog/2017/november/smg-staff-receives-stop-the-bleed-training-led-b/

So yes, it is the same crew. Hope it helps.

Trying to arrest players for smoking cigars now this good lord

What a f*cking loser...the Dome had major pyro (you could feel the heat in the terrace when the teams ran out) and fireworks out the arse when the game ended, and this dude was threatening to arrest players for smoking victory cigars. Dude needs to get a freaking life.

SMG Police may be commissioned, but they are still essentially armed security guards. They do not work for a real police department. Real cops laugh at them.

Watching that video I'm wondering why he's (mall cop) harassing Damien Lewis over BS much more than I'm concerned with OBJ slapping his doofus arse on the rear end. OBJ, also seems to be saying, man c'mon, we just won a fricking national title, and your silly arse is harassing my man Lewis over what, some BS about where his juice bottle is. Lmao In watching the video, Lewis doesn't even have a cigar in his hand and he's bothering the kid, the idiot, LA is the worst.

Stop right there, the guy has one of the hottest GF's you can find, so the rumors are typical garbage BS.

If it were any of the mostly white people on this board, they would be in jail for ignoring a lawful order or assaulting the officer.

Something tells me Fife had money on Clemson and was pissed about it.

Just a completely irrational response from that officer and I’m honestly surprised none of his colleagues pulled him aside and told him to STFU.

Like I said, if I'm the NFL I'm dropping NOLA from the Super Bowl rotation because of this.

That's a little ridiculous. The "cop" or whoever ordered this done is retarded, but this seems like an isolated moronic incident.

Exactly. Context matters. No one is trying to hurt anyone they just were having the time of their lives.

I may be reading too into it, but it was like demons of 1/9/12 were exorcised for the former players that were there. A championship for their university, in their state, and in some cases, their city. A perfect storm if you will, culminating in a title game that punctuated perhaps the greatest in college football history. It was just really endearing watching the celebration from OBJ and everyone involved.

Then you have this dude that is all, "well ackshully....that is battery"
