Uh, no. It’s not.

These people are unreal.
It’s free. You can put your kid in public school without having to pay for it.

Right. The thing that people mean when they say a public school education is free. That old thing.

Man y’all get testy af when people call some of the shite y’all got free. Y’all don’t like when people point out how socialist y’all are, do ya?

Just to be clear, if you or your children have ever gone to public school, you are a leech who depends on the government to take care of you.

It isn't free. Not everyone pays for it, but that doesn't make it "free"

It’s free. When someone gives me something and charges me $0.00, that’s what they mean by free.

It doesn’t mean the thing that you wish it meant.

Strange. Somehow we've managed to sustain the free K-12 system for nearly a century. Absorbing a 4-year college system can reasonable and achievable.

There’s no such thing as a free lunch. We have a public K-12 educational system that is funded by taxes - predominantly property taxes, sales taxes, and usage taxes and an increasing share by the feds, courtesy of - wait for it - your income taxes.

To call public education free is a gross misnomer.

Again, just because you didn't pay for it, doesn't make it "free"

It may be free to you, but it is most certainly paid for by anyone who owns real estate in the school district.

You are confusing cost and price

Bernie and warren don’t prance around the country saying “we will make healthcare free at the point of delivery”....they say “we are going to make healthcare free”

The costs of public education get passed on to you - whether you realize it or not

You know why Harvard is so expensive?

Because it’s worth it.

You know why normal colleges are practically unaffordable?

Because the government got involved in paying the bill.

It ain’t me, buddy. The “free school” narrative hits ultra-conservatives close to home because most of them depend on the government to educate them and/or their children, and it flies in the face of their general political stance. That’s why so many of them are stuck on what “free” means. It isn’t a comfortable conversation for them.

While that is going on, track the students who graduated with the "useful" degrees and see how many actually got jobs in those fields.

Every person in my class of ~30 was employed or had offers in their degree field within 6 months. Granted it is engineering, but you could start there.

I would hope you agree engineering is useful.

Tell that to people in Baton Rouge, which pay higher sales tax, state income tax, and still have to pay to send their kids to private schools.
