Not for kids with realistic goals in life. That could mean the NFL or it could mean a degree.

Nobody watches the XFL. Kids who can play in the league will get much, much more exposure in college, and can improve draft stock infinitely more than they could in the XFL.

For those who know they won’t be NFL players, staying four years gets them a degree that can support them for 50 years.

XFL money is pretty meh, and the duration of a career is pretty short. Nobody even knows if the venture will succeed.

Just look at what happened with that other league last year (AAF maybe?).

Those are good points Philippines4LSU and I agree with you for the time being; however, the XFL is attempting to play the long game this time around. They’ve got a cheap TV deal for three years with strong media outlets and a clear intention of getting significant money for the TV rights after those three years are up.

Live sport is just about the only valuable TV property these days with Netflix and other streaming services. I’m only spitballing here but with an injection of cash down the line and more money available to pay players, I do wonder if that position changes in time.

We’re already seeing guys like Lamelo Ball playing professional basketball down here in Australia because there are no college eligibility requirements. Obviously the money is a lot less than the NBA but it’s still a fair amount for a five-month season.

If you’re 18/19 years old though, and from a modest background / poor family, I’ve got to think that the lure of a $300,000 or so deal (assuming XFL can pay those numbers) would be pretty enticing for some top prospects.

“The XFL will pay its players an average salary of $55,000, according to a report from Pro Football Talk.“

Yep, I was aware of that - and apologies if my post was not clear. I mean in three years’ time when McMahon isn’t giving away the content for free and renegotiates a new TV rights deal that enables the league to pay bigger salaries.

If ANY non NFL professional football league has any aspirations of long term success they would be wise to create a model that resembles minor league baseball and would affiliate them with an NFL team essentially making them a farm league.

#1 It would tap into NFL money
#2 It would provide NFL the opportunity to identify talent early and cheap.
#3 It would provide NFL teams to develop talent in a similar scheme to what they run
#4 It would allow the NFL to bring up players during the season..this would be a huge game/season-changer.

Biggest obstacle is the Power 5 Conferences are addicted to all the $$$ the elite talent brings. A farm league would diminish this and the Power 5 will fight tooth and nail against anything that would resemble a minor football league.

That's why the NFL hasn't done it. They can sit back, watch these experiments play out, and still benefit (if it does) and have zero skin in the game.

As much as fans love sports and wish seasons didn't end, there is fatigue and I think that's one of the biggest problems. They couldn't compete with the NFL or big college games if it were on at the same time.

The hidden issue here is that kids can now play professional football without the three year required hiatus from high school by the NFL.

If top high school players begin to see the logic in this and also can sign endorsement deals, college football could get a run for their money. It’s probably why the NCAA has capitulated to the recent pay for athletes.

The landscape could be very different in the near future.

Way Too many great athletes “Joe Burrow”who should be starting and playing who many time don’t get that opportunity.
XFL is another platform if done right this time that gives them that opportunity just like the IPFL gave Kurt Warner.

GEAUX XFL! F the NFL!

XFL will most prolly get a jump on NFL and not require 3 years of college to get guys sooner. That is the rumor. they will play by a different set of rules. They will need it.

Can't wait for season to start. GEAUX HOUSTON ROUGHNECKS! Need another league like old USFL badly in spring time. Gonna be a longshot if it works but anything is possible.

that was a garbage poorly thought out subsidiary of the NFL. good it failed. helps XFL.

XFL should take lessons fron past USFL and XFL.

Why settle with a Corolla when you can drive a Maserati.

We don’t have to worry about this since the XFL will be dead in a year or two.
