Will transgenders who happen to be biologically male be allowed to compete with biological females?

This is going to cause more protests from petulant USA athletes IMO.

Yes, the Olympics are about the individual. But it's also about representing your country. If you are ashamed of your country, you shouldn't be representing them.
Meh. Tommie and John's protest in 1968 was necessary and is appreciated. I'm somewhat surprised the IOC did this - must be because they expected some blowback from their own sorry history of complete lack of ethics.

Also, you know it's possible to protest something "global" and not just your own country, right?

I have zero problem with people protesting. I have zero compulsion to shut people up or keep them forcibly from saying something they want to say.

Neither do I. I do however think there is a time and a place.

All political statements, including kneeling, clenched fists, etc will not be tolerated during anthems.

Huh? Is that a sign of protest? And people will get reprimanded for that?

She's Exhibit A for why you see so many white male/Asian female couples these days. Feminism is ruining a lot of white women.

PS - Yes, I know. She's Lebanese.

I mean, I'm not an Olympic athlete and I have nothing to protest at all. But the Olympics are an inherently political event given that they are organized literally around the entire concept of nation states. It's weird to me to think it's naturally off limits for people on that stage to use it for something protest related.

I really do think this is more about the IOC avoiding protests of ITSELF than anything else.

I think they saw a trend and a lot of media focus on the anthem protest movement. They decided they did not want every anthem ceremony turned into a protest demonstration for every pet cause. They want the focus to be unifying not divisive and on the sporting competitions and accomplishments rather than political statements.

In a way, it is upholding the roots and purpose of the Olympics, which states that the world is to put aside politics for two weeks and come together in the spirit of athletic competition.

I don't know how many countries qualify for the Olympics in soccer. But there are some places in SE Asia where the fans of the visiting team are advised not to attend because they will be murdered by the fans of the home team. And it's all about politics.

Whenever the U.S. plays Mexico, I kneel for their national anthem.
