re: Someone please provide solid analysis as to why Taysom can’t start for this team.

I agree. I get people wanting to know the future, knowing next year is probably Brees’ last. But Hill ain’t it. I love Hill and he’s a great football player but if he was going to step up and be Brees’ successor, the FO wouldn’t have tried so hard to bring back Teddy.
Hill does a lot of important shite for this team. Throwing passes 30 times a game will never be one of them. He’s not that kind of player. He’s not Lamar Jackson. He’s not Brees. If he was forced to play QB, he’d be a poor man’s Josh Allen, which would not get us anywhere except 7-9 and 8-8 seasons. I’d rather suck and try and get a Qb that way. No, we probably aren’t winning a super bowl with or without Brees next year but that doesn’t mean Hill should be QB. If he had it...he would have been a starter before now or Payton would be moving to protect him since he’s the future. It’s because he’s not.

Second, I think if Payton thought he could run the offense, Teddy wouldn't have started 5 games. Taysom was even in the system a year longer than Teddy.
That's about as solid of analysis as you can get.
hard to justify to public why they paid him top backup monies if they weren't going to use him there.

Or because Payton values the great things Hill does at other positions rather than the ok things he does at quarterback and so would rather a better backup QB.
If people want to move on from Brees, I’m cool with it. But people wanting it to be Hill instead of Bridgewater are just clueless. Probably the same people who said but but but all Tebow does is win!!

The negative people are the same assholes who thought Lamar Jackson wasn’t going to be a player. I love drew and am ready to move on. Start taysom!!!!

Taysom would throw just about as much as Teddy yardage wise plus close to 1,000 yards rushing in a full season.

I could see that, but Taysom would also throw for a lower completion % & have a lot more turnovers imo.

i respect your opinion but taysom passed for nearly 68% in preseason and Teddy was at 61.5%.

This will be his 3rd offseason with us. He's already developed and knows our offense now possibly as good as anyone since he knows it from so many different angles.
We have a top 5 roster and Brees just had his best season over the past few. Now is not the time to experiment with a 30 year old QB with no experience. If you were ready to usher in a new era and don’t care about winning, sure

I'm not in the move on from Drew camp for the record. I am a fan of Taysom and am worried about what kind of monies Drew wants and how much more we have to kick the god damn can that already has 25 mill over next 2 seasons.

This team is better with Brees and hill immersed as a full fledged offensive piece. We need to add another WR whose skills are conducive to Brees short game
With the current QB landscape and Hill’s RFA designation, there is a real possibility some team throws stupid money at him that we cannot match .

No he wouldn’t. He’s not shifty like Lamar Jackson. He runs through people which will only increase his chances of being injured. The way Hill plays QB...he would never, ever last a whole season and so his move to QB would be pointless
Because if you ask him not to run through people and do what he does, then you take away what makes him such an effective runner.

these are words on the internet that mean nothing. Taysom had nearly 150 yards in part time qb play in 4 ps games. Taysom can absolutely be effective as a runner without having to truck someone every run.

This as well. The only realistic possibility of keeping Hill is to place a first round tender on him and if someone is dumb enough to pay him and give up their first round pick then you take the extra first rounder.

Yea it would suck to lose Taysom, but a 1st round pick would more than make up for it.
Let's just pray that some team is dumb enough.

it would SUCK to lose Taysom for a 1st. In this made up scenario, it likely wouldn't be a top 10 type 1st.

I'd take a top 20-25 1st rounder for him.
The problem is that the stupid teams are usually picking top 10, so this probably won't be happening.

I think we have seen the Taysom Hill.....He has similar skillsets as Kordell Stewart (Slash).
Hill is a jack of all trades and a master of none. It's easy for him to come in here and there and throw a pass because teams are not expecting him to throw. The issue is once he's full time QB, it takes away from his greatest asset in being really versatile player.
I prefer Teddy Bridgewater. He is solid and with TB, Payton will call a far better offense gameplan than he has with Brees at QB.
Our offense will become more balanced again. History shows that when we are a balanced offense we are great.
I do like having Hill on the roster. He is a really talented kid.

Wouldn't lose him unless we don't match that contract. It really all depends on what the other team offers him.
As for which tender to set, I am not sure a first is the proper one. Based on this chart it looks as if a 1st tender in 2020 will be a $4.7mill contract. This is a tricky number. Ingram at 5mill was last year's debacle. Is Hill the role player (though extremely effective and important one) worth more than Ingram? If his role remains the same, I say no.
Now if he does become the backup next year, then this changes everything. You can 1st rd tender him, see if another team signs him and then decide if it's worth matching. They may pay him starter money, and in that case you let him go and take the 1st. If it's backup money then you match that contract.
It really all depends on if Payton thinks he is truly the heir apparent to Brees. We will know this soon enough based on if he gets a new contract or a tender, and those numbers or specific designation will tell us this.
