I have around 100 dvds of movies and tv series that I would like to put on portable hard drives. How many portable hard drives would I need and is there a business that does this? I am not computer savvy and how much would I be looking at for this service?

Just download the movies or series

It’s not worth it

You can do it yourself for much less than it would cost to have someone else do it. Just need:

- a computer with a dvd drive (I assume you already have)
- a program to decrypt the dvds (I use AnyDVD but there may be cheaper/free ones)
- Handbrake to actually do the rip (free)
- time for the computer to do the work (will take up to a few hours each depending on the computer & dvd)

I was contemplating doing the same a while back. I have a huge box of old dvds. However people on this board convinced me to just torrent that shite. So much easier, and much less of a headache. So, I’m a bad boy now.

I know you say you aren’t computer savvy, so ask your kid or grandkid to do it for you, because they are probably doing it anyway.

You're better off finding a friend with movies on a hard drive and copying them to yours.

Rinse and repeat.

I'll do it for $50 per movie, Boomer.

I wish Apple would initiate some sort of trade in or “recycling” program where you could send in original store bought DVDs with clamshell and all for a discount to add to their library. At least 50-75% off and I would do it.

Vudu has a disc to digital program. Haven't really checked it out though.

Disc to Digital
