Looking at lightweight, bolt action .308 with 22" barrel and composite stock for <$1000. Below is what I've got it narrowed down to. (I was about to purchase the X-Bolt until I found out about the issues with the dura-touch coating). Thanks in advance!

Kimber Hunter - 5.5 lbs
Tikka T3x Superlite - 5.9 lbs
Browning X-Bolt Stalker - 6 lbs
Tikka T3x LITE - 6.17 lbs
Savage Axis II - 6.5 lbs
Ruger American - 6.6 lbs
Mauser M18 - 6.6 lbs
Franchi Momentum - 6.6 lbs
Winchester XPR - 6.75 lbs
Bergara B-14 Hunter - 7 lbs

NULA or bust!!!

Having owned 3 of them, I just dont like tikka rifles. They shoot, they are light, great triggers, etc but I just dont like em. I dont like detachable mags and I think that's my main gripe with them.

Of that list I would get the kimber or bergara. Being a .308 you could add the ruger m77 compact and remington model 7.

With a $1000 budget, I would find a used older rem 700 and put a mcmillian hunters edge stock on it.

Tikka, Kimber, or Bergara gets my vote. Nothing wrong with the others.

Just get it in 6.5 Creedmoor.

Forgot to mention, people have recently been getting issues with extractors breaking with very little round count on some of the bergara guns. It's anecdotal so do as you wish, just throwing it out there.

I have a Ruger American Predator in .308.

It’s threaded and the barrel is only 18” but I really like it a lot. I run it suppressed and the short barrel makes it a really good length.

I did not like the stock on it at all and replaced it with the Magpul American Hunter.

Much better now and it’s accurate. So far I have gotten around 1.5” group at 100yds but it isn’t broken in well yet.

Go hold a kimber rifle before you consider it. I really liked the “mountain” rifles (ascent and Adirondack) online and on the shelf. When I put them in my hands I didn’t like them at all. The fluted bolt is incredibly wobbly in the action and overall the rifle felt cheap. I decided against either model and went with a nosler m48.
That said, if you triple your budget you can get a nosler 6.5 Creedmoor that weighs around 5.5 pounds with a proof research barrel, carbon fiber stock and timney trigger.

Win M70 Compact

I recently shot a Bergara B14 - decent rifle, trigger has creep, its very similar in handling to a Rem 700. I’m meh on the Bergara, need to tighten up on the shitty trigger.
