I am looking at buying my son a truck. He is looking at a 2015 XLT Sport with a 2.7 EcoBoost. Anyone have experience with that truck/engine?
TIA.

Get the V8. A small turbo V6 like that has no place in an F150.
The wear on that engine by forcing that much air into it to power >4500 lbs of truck is immense.

I've had a 2017 with the 2.7 for several years. It's been a solid engine and is a lot more peppy than you'd think. Sounds like a sewing machine though.

2.7 ecoboost is fine for hauling groceries, garbage and girls.

I sell used vehicles for a living, in Montana, where we see thousands of trucks traded in a year.
We get a LOT of EcoBoost F150s traded in with between 90k and 110k miles. They do not age well and have lots of pricey issues as the miles increase. Oil lines to the turbos, turbos themselves, timing chains, head gaskets are all weak points. We wholesale a large portion of the over-100k EcoBoosts we get on trade, because a lot of them are too fricked up to be worth keeping.
Granted, these are all things that apply to the 3.5L specifically. Maybe the 2.7L is better. I have no experience with those.
Bottom line is, I see hundreds of used EcoBoost F150s a year, and based on my experience, I wouldn’t buy one with more than 50k miles.

Do not buy the ecoboost or anything with eco in the name.
Get the V8
Get the V8

Make sure it's a crew cab so there's plenty of room in the backseat for all the gay sex that happens in trucks with a 2.7 liter engine

the engine itself is great and mine towed better than my old 2500. everything else (TRANSMISSION) was crap and i literally fled the scene after i traded it in before they changed their mind at the dealership

I just bought a new 2019 Lariat with the 3.5 EcoBoost. Now have about 3500 miles on it. I researched all of the Ford engines and decided the 3.5 would fit all of my needs. Even though I don't tow a lot, it has a 13,000 lb towing capacity. I'm getting 23.5 mpg on the highway and close to 20 in town. I love the torque when in high traffic areas. Good luck with you decision. ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Iconcheers.gif)

Just get the kid the truck.
The comments here won’t help you.
The kid will love the fact that he has a truck. It isn’t something he is gonna have for 10 years anyways

Get the 5.0L V8 or even the 3.0L diesel.

I've got a 2015 Lariat with the 2.7
Currently have about 120,000 miles on it.
I haven't had the first problem with the 2.7 and I tow a 24' boat.
I have never thought it felt underpowered.
Its a solid setup imo.

I have the 3.5 Eco and I suggest you get the V8.

I had the exact same truck and highly recommend it. Im in the repair business if that holds any weight with you. If not that truck Id recommend a Tundra.

25 year Ford Parts/service manager here, I know a little bit about the 2.7. It’s a fine engine for an everyday driver. They don’t like to work hard everyday, but very few work their F150’s very hard. I would not hesitate to buy one with 100k on it if it has been maintained properly. If you like the truck, buy it.

My dad has had one for a few years. He actually pulls a camper with it with no problems. I drove it once and was sceptical but the little engine hauls arse. I would buy the v8 personally but for my dad he loves it.
