Is this defense going to cost us in the postseason?

Let's face it, the D just hasn't been the same since Drew has been back. What has it been? The run D is still stout, though they showed some holes against San Fran and yesterday. But still solid.
Davis, Klein and Alonso have been very good. Lattimore and CGJ have been good. Are Williams, Bell and Apple dragging us down that much? Was our defensive performances earlier in the year more of a product of us facing shitty offenses? When Williams, Bell and Apple were playing well earlier in the year, our defense was lights out. But since all three have taken a step back, so has our defense. Instead of a top 10 unit, we look middle of the road. We have flashes of brilliance like for the second quarter today and most of the third. The Colts game and most of the Thanksgiving Night game (outside of the onside kicks).
Which is so strange since Davis, Klein, Alonso and the front four have still played well despite injuries. It's a really good thing seeing our offense clicking like it is, which gives me hope, but the way the D is playing makes it seem like we are destined for another late collapse in the divisional or championship game. Besides injuries, it's got to be the play of Bell, Apple and Williams, right? Which is a shame since they played really well earlier in the year. Can 3 guys drag us down this much? Is it Dennis Allen calling horrible games?

We are missing half our D-Line and our pass rush has fallen off considerably. Why you got to be a dumbass?

They were money when it mattered with the game on the line yesterday so....

Defensively they adjusted well during the game should be ok

I thought the pass rush was quite good yesterday

I was impressed by Granderson. He's still raw, but his athleticism gets the best of good players.
I'm excited about his future here.

It is very hard to get a sustained drive against this defense, but they are very susceptible to the big play. If they can limit the big plays to 2 or 3 per game, I don't think we lose, especially if they win us the turnover game.

It was, and we also did lot's of pass and run blitzing. Gardner, Davis and Robinson were in their backfield almost every big play in the second half. We were rushing with 4 very successfully earlier in the year when our front 4 were healthy. That make a big difference in the secondary because we have less in coverage.

Our pass rush hasn’t been a problem all year. Quit spewing shite out of your arse and watch the games. Our DL play is NOT the problem here

We had successful rushes without blitzing yesterday and we had problems with our D wayyy before Davenport and Rankins got hurt. Again, talking out of your arse

Name the last time our defense didn't cost us in the postseason.

We usually are among the most blitz heavy teams every year. Davis and our SS (Bell and CGJ) have been blitzing all season long.

Any loss can be considered our defense letting us down....you know, cause they have to score points to win.
Relax, enjoy festivus. 13-3, 1-3 seed.
frick the refs!

2009 and 2013
2010 - Beast Mode
2011 - Alex Smith looked like Steve Young
2013 - Score was 24-16 against SB champs
2017 - Missed tackle
2018 - Gave up too many points against a regressing Goff
2019 - TBD
Offense did share some blames in these losses too

What world do you live in?

Sans 2013, every Saints playoff loss since 09 has involved the defense giving up a game clinching/tying score in the final minute.
In 11, 17, 18 we retook leads at the end only for the defense to give it up in less than 45 seconds
That is fricking insane

You think I forgot about the missed pass interference? Of course that did play the biggest part. But Goff did regress some since the Chiefs shootout onwards. Also like I said our offenses shared the blame too. I was looking at all the times our defense played really well in the post season. This wasn’t one of the times.

Do you watch other NFL defenses
The titans are currently a playoff team. Like we just outscored then 38-14 after their hot start
Like always, playoff games come down to who gets a break, a TO, big play etc. defenses are an after thought. Even so our defense holds up against any that will be in the playoffs

We shut their run down with a surging CJ Anderson. Goff made some insane throws that postseason both against the Cowboys and us. Like Keenum in 2017. Sometimes QBs get hot and play out of their minds and he did exactly that. I don’t blame the D that game. I blame the offense.
But I trust this years offense a lot more than last years. If we could get last year production from our D then we’d be set. And we had that kind of production earlier in the year. But it’s been touch and go since then on when we show up.
