Forgot about this play earlier when I responded in another thread basically saying the Saints got bent over all day, especially early, I thought oh here we go no turnover now and didn’t happen by some miracle... no love lost with the way the Refs F us all game just like the rest of the season

The announcers, and I think Dean Blandino, made reference to leading with the shoulder and CJGJ moving his head away from the receiver's helmet before discussing the catch-fumble question, so I assume that, no, it was not an illegal hit.
Because Deano would have been skyscreaming about it the rest of the game.

Completely legit hit. If you can’t hit a guy like that than football shouldn’t be a sport any longer.

Never entered my mind for a second.

Dude had two feet down took a third while tucking his body in. Not sure he was defenseless and the camera angles never showed that his head was hit. If it was, it was with shoulder pads.

It was a good hit with no intention on Gardner Johnson's part, just like the same type of hit he put on that bitch from SF who started flailing on the ground like he was dying. Then jumps up and "runs" to the sideline not even going into their concussion tent for evaluation. No, it was a clean hard football hit. I agree if you lower the crown of your helmet to hit as a weapon that should be a penalty but not your shoulder. I don't care how the rule is written that was a clean hit today baws!

Any body see a blatant hit on a defenseless player here because I sure don't.
Just saw a similar article on Yahoo, and let’s both forgot our age if we are referring to MSN.com and Yahoo articles, but can we all admit the nfl is moving(unfortunately) to a standard where a catch is going to become similar to fielding a punt?

It was a huge missed call that could have implications on the playoff picture
Man ya just hate to see missed calls have an affect when the playoffs are concerned...

No mention of the Titans RT that jumped early on a touchdown that shouldn’t have counted?

So CGJ made a perfect hit on this play. The receiver ducked into that hit when bracing for impact. By ducking into it he showed he clearly wasn’t defenseless. That being said, if a runner ducks into a hit to the head it should not be a penalty on the defense. If they really want to protect players they should start penalizing the offensive player for ducking into those hits. Pretty soon guys will only be able to aim for knees and ankles if they do call stuff like this. The offense has to have some responsibility on hits like this.

He wasn't defenseless. It was ruled a fumble, so he was a runner at that point.

I saw that too and not even a look from the Refs.

Yeah basically since it was ruled a catch the receiver became a runner. At that point the only illegal contact to the head area is helmet to helmet (if clearly initiated by the defender) or launching.
CGJ made a clear effort to avoid a helmet to helmet hit after the receiver became a runner.
