Buckeye Coming to Visit the Bayou

Alright y'all, I'll admit upfront I'm a Buckeye from Ohio but it has always been a dream to come down to the Bayou to see the Tigers. Just booked LSU vs. Texas for next September and was looking for tailgate tips. Any advice on where to go? I want the crawfish, the oysters, the gumbo, hell give me the alligator.

The crawfish will not be of the boiled variety, just a heads up.

Hell of a game to pick. It will be hot as hell but should be a good one

Tigers dining on Shorthorns that weekend.

Crawfish season will be over. Oysters are nearly extinct; you can still find a few but they're crazy expensive compared to the past. Half the people here will tell you it'll be too hot for gumbo; I'm a year round gumbo guy but you won't want to eat it outside in September. Gator is overrated in my opinion but worth a try.
Stick to the basics. Eat some jambalaya, red beans and rice, and boudin. You'll leave 10 pounds heavier but happy.

The Chimes.
Always, The Chimes.

A trip to Chimes right off campus is well worth it for some good food.

I think you have a little time to get this planned.
Seriously though, come back late in the summer to get more details on suggestions for tailgating and things to do around campus. Better hope for a night game because it will be hot as hell during the day.
<----- Go over to the food and drink board to get specific restaurant and bar suggestions also.

Chimes one night.
Acme Oyster House the other night.
Walk around LSU tailgates and introduce yourself. Let them know you’ve never had Louisiana cooking before.
You’ll leave knowing the difference between ACTUAL Louisiana cooking and Louisiana restaurant cooking. Both Chimes and Acme are great but nothing beats authentic Louisiana Cajun cooking you’ll find at various tailgates.
If you’re willing to drive 45 minutes southeast of campus, I’ll give you real gumbo in the newly renovated (by then) “The Burreaux” mancave of mine. Inspired by yours truly, Joseph Burrow - 2019 Heisman Trophy recipient and hopefully national champion. Compliments of your home state.

You should make a trip over to Half Shell

Didn't we recruit you to play LB at one time?

Couldn’t have picked a better game to go to. You’ll get the full experience of what tailgating and LSU football is like! GEAUX TIGERS!!!!

Dress accordingly. It WILL BE HOT! It's also peak hurricane season, too.

If you want restaurant cajun/creole food, seriously, go to New Orleans. Baton Rouge restaurants suck. The best of them are, at best, chain restaurants or taste like it. I'm 51 and have never had a great cajun/creole restaurant meal from BR comparable to NOLA.
For great home-style cauldron-cooked jambalaya/gumbo deliciousness & expertly grilled local goodness, make friends with some resident tailgaters. It'll rock your world.

I am going to have to disagree. Though Drago's is great, when I tried the ones at French Quarter Bistro off Highland... I was sold.

Should be some outstanding tailgating for the Texas game in Baton Rouge
It's been awhile since LSU has brought in a big name non conf opponent to Tiger Stadium
It's been a lot of neutral site games so the fanbase has had this one circled for awhile now.
Following year LSU heads to the Rose Bowl to take on UCLA non conf as well.
Two really good non conf games to get excited about.

Start praying that the game is at night and not 02:30. And not just for the atmosphere. Could be a scorcher.

Keep in touch Buckeye! Also, it's in September, so will be hot sticky and humid down here, so don't need an Ohio State Sweater or Hoodie, a T-shirt will do. It's early, but for the basics, as others have suggested, The Chimes right outside the North Gate of campus or Walk Ons SE of Tiger Stadium are good for food options.
Crawfish are seasonal and won't be in season. If you walk around the huge campus, tailgates are EVERYWHERE....with you in an OSU T-shirt, telling them you are here just to see what all the fuss about Tiger Stadium and tailgating is about, you will be invited and fed by many many groups! It's like no other place on earth on a Saturday, and with the fact that you picked a good game you will get the full monty of the experience.
Come on down!!
