Chip Long is exploring other opportunities and is unlikely to return to the Notre Dame staff, sources told FootballScoop Wednesday.
Long has been Notre Dame’s offensive coordinator for the past three years. Hired as part of a staff reboot in the wake of the Fighting Irish’s 4-8 season of 2016, Long has helped Notre Dame go 32-6 with a trip to the College Football Playoff in 2018.
Notre Dame’s numbers were up significantly in 2019. After tying for 47th at an even six yards per play in 2018, the Irish averaged 6.25 this fall (33rd). The club’s scoring average grew from 31.4 points a game last season to 37.1 in 2019.

wasn't he Norvell's OC at one time? If so, maybe he is gonna hook back up with him at FSU?
*just read the link
that would be my guess, is that he is reuniting with Norvell

Norvell hired Dilly from Auburn to be his OC

Yep.

Prior to Notre Dame, Long worked alongside new Florida State head coach Mike Norvell, first as the recruiting coordinator and tight ends coach at Arizona State while Norvell was the Sun Devils’ offensive coordinator, then as Memphis’s offensive coordinator under Norvell’s direction as head coach.

Is this Long wanting to leave ND, or ND asking Long to look around?

ND numbers were up this past year so I would think this is Long looking for another opportunity, maybe.
Is Texas still looking for an OC?
Ole Miss maybe?

He was a pretty damn good play-caller working with what are limited QBs (Wimbush and Book).
His offenses did tend to sputter against elite defenses, but I’m not sure how much if that is on him vs. Kelly.

I think Long wants to move on. He wanted to be Bama's OC and might have gotten the job if Sark didn't become available.

He was in Tuscaloosa interviewing for the job a day before Sark got hired.
He played at North Alabama and is from Birmingham so it would make sense that he wants to move closer to home.

Noice…. if true!

He did a great job at Memphis. I would have loved to see him back there as the new HC.

Apparently he’s reached out to Oregon.

Hell naw. We don't need that in the SEC West.
Arkie would hit a home run if that was the case.

Lol there’s nothing really substantial linking him here but he was a GA at Arkansas under Petrino.
Penn State, Oregon and Texas are probably ahead of us on the pecking order but from what Pittman has said it would be perfect for what he wants to run. Probably would have to shell out some big bucks.

I think Book is a very solid QB that was just a tad too careless in the red zone. With the right QB coach he could have been special (I thought he was better than Burrow last season and expected him to make the same kind of leap this season, which obviously was far from what actually happened).

I think a lot of it is on BK. It hasn't mattered who the OC was during his tenure, the offense always had a tendency to go away from what was working, or just stall for a few drives for no reason (big example being the first half of USC in 2018). There wasn't nearly the weapons available this year as the past couple of years, and too improve statistically, especially with the UGA and Michigan games included, says a lot about Long's ability as an OC.

You’re crazy. Nobody has ever made a one year leap like Burrow did.
