IMO there should be term limits for ALL federal government positions.
I'm talking the from the President on down to the IRS mail clerk.
It has been proven over the last decade or so that institutional power needs to be cut off at the knees.

Nothing, they would just take turns putting their Buddys in office and continuing to run the same scams on the American taxpayer that they run everyday. Our government is a fricking joke.

don't you think that, if a person has one more year in office KNOWINGLY, that he or she will get the "don't give a shite syndrome"?

No entrenched politicians based on name recognition only no matter how sorry they are as a politician. Many voters don't care about the politics of a person, just their name.

Removing the power of incumbency.

imo, it limits the potential for lobbying and their influence over the officials. I think it could help with all the corruption as well. Also, imo, with term limits, you limit their power.

I like a weak federal government.
But think of it this way.
If elected officials are turning over every two to four years, doesn’t that empower the civil service? The people who’ve spent twenty years in federal government working for their respective agencies?
I would argue those people, the permanent state, are more of a problem than the grifters we elect to public office.

to allow someone to be "entrenched" is to keep voting them in.
vote them out.

No more than those who assume nigh-permanent reelection is a given. Far less damaging in the long run.

This is naive.

but, what if a candidate is the best to ever hold office. should we have to watch him/her leave office and just hope?
shouldn't we have the opportunity to keep them in office due to their success?

Being able to pull the lever for whatever candidate you would like is ‘freedom’
It’s nice to have the ability to send someone up to Congress that knows how it’s run and can actually get stuff done for you.
What happens when you have a great Representive that you love the job his is doing for you and all the sudden don’t have the freedom of voting him to keep his job and have to send someone that has to start over from scratch learning how Congress works.
That doesn’t sound like freedom of choice

Term limits limit the amount of corruption and self enrichment from government that political lifers do simply by limiting their time in the political class.

That doesn't work and I explained why. Here's something else, if term limits are good enough to impose on a president then it's sure as heck good enough for those that put the restriction on the president's office also.

I propose that you are limited to 12 total years of legislative service. That means any combination of house and senate service:
6 house terms
3 house terms, 1 senate terms
2 senate terms
6 house terms
3 house terms, 1 senate terms
2 senate terms

that's kinda why i'm on the fence with term limits.
