Prevents the empower building.

See all those politicians that are filthy rich on a government salary and creating the perks that nobody else can have.

You lose the permanent ruling class...true, you will have a lot of good ole boy networks, but it will be at least different people and not 80 year olds rolling out there for their 30th term in congress.

imo, it limits the potential for lobbying and their influence over the officials.

Actually, it could increase the power of lobbyists. Officials lean on lobbyists already because a lobbyist is simply the subject matter expert on the issue. As an Official gets more time under their belt and understands the issues more fully, they could (in theory) not need the lobbyist SME. With term limits they'll never be able to adequately develop their own expertise in the issues before their time is up.

it could help with all the corruption

Corruption will just move to other entities.

you limit their power

Power will rest somewhere. Limiting the elected official's power will only move the power to unelected lobbyists or bureaucrats.

That doesn't work and I explained why. Here's something else, if term limits are good enough to impose on a president then it's sure as heck good enough for those that put the restriction on the president's office also.

there's a few presidents, in my lifetime, that i wish had no term limits. you?

1) Power is decentralized from Washington D.C. thus giving you, the citizen, more power.
2) As one ages, so goes his faculties. Just listen to Leahy speak.
3) Longer you are in D.C., greater your chances of being corrupted by lobbyists or other power brokers.
4) Harder for special interest groups to purchase "favors" (again corruption) if you are not guaranteed a spot in DC.

In short, term limits give more power back to the citizens of this country and reduces the chance of corruption.

Reagan is the only one in my lifetime I'd had been okay with but with his age and memory starting to fade eight years was probably enough for him. Daddy Bush failed miserable with his campaign and having to eat his words on no new taxes for his second run.

so....you think that we should just appoint then?

incumbency is the very definition of the people voting for the candidate again and again because WE the people want said candidate in office AGAIN.

Sure there was, four more years was all he could serve.

we voted him out.

As we did Carter after one term but politics weren't as polarized back then as nowadays. It's all about party of a politician and not his/her politics. Practically all of us are guilty of this in today's political climate, at least on a national level.

so.....if you love your senator, and you think that he/she is kicking arse for you and your region, you'd be ok with him/her stepping down because the HAVE to and not because they were voted out?
