USS John F. Kennedy (CVN 79).

It's being launched today in Newport News.

went to a Christening of a USN ship once, was named after a friend's first cousin so I got to be in the VIP group, one of the most awesome and touching ceremonies I've ever witnessed

Cool. I did one of the last deployments on its predecessor, CV67.

Bet it's pretty damn advanced compared to mine, CVN 72, did they do the electromagnetic catapults on this deal? Or still steam?

I never heard that they definitively had the USS Ford straightened out.
It seems like we constantly want to reinvent the wheel, and makes things harder than they have to be.

I know it's cold, but the singer of the national anthem is flat and singing with so much tension. I'm spoiled here in the DC area because we have the best of the best of the military service bands, but bless her heart.

The champagne bottle didn't break on the first try, but she gave it a damn good solid whack the second time. Success.

HII is commissioning 2 at the beginning of 2020 in Pascagoula. An NSC and a DDG. I'm going to make it a point to make it to one of them.
