Mismatches in the Marriage Market
Daniel T. Lichter, Joseph P. Price, Jeffrey M. Swigert
04 September 2019
Objective: This article provides an assessment of whether unmarried women currently face demo-graphic shortages of marital partners in the U.S.marriage market.
Background: One explanation for the declines in marriage is the putative shortage of economically attractive partners for unmarried women to marry. Previous studies provide mixed results but are usually focused narrowly on sex ratio imbalances rather than identifying shortages on the multiple socioeconomic characteristics that typically sort women and men into marriages.
Methods: This study identities recent marriages from the 2008 to 2012 and 2013 to 2017 cumulative 5-year les of the American Community Survey. Data imputation methods provide estimates of the sociodemographic characteristics of unmarried women’s potential (or synthetic)spouses who resemble the husbands of otherwise comparable married women. These estimates are compared with the actual distribution of unmarried men at the national, state, and local area levels to identify marriage market imbalances.
Results: These synthetic husbands have an average income that is about 58% higher than the actual unmarried men that are currently available to unmarried women. They also are 30%more likely to be employed (90% vs. 70%) and19% more likely to have a college degree (30%vs. 25%). Racial and ethnic minorities, especially Black women, face serious shortages of potential marital partners, as do low socioe=conomic status and high socioeconomic status unmarried women, both at the national and sub-national levels. Conclusions: This study reveals large decitsin the supply of potential male spouses. One implication is that the unmarried may remain unmarried or marry less well-suited partners.

Liberated women shouldn't need an "economically attractive" man.

The natural result of feminism and an anything goes attitude toward women having sex with anyone and everyone.
Women are told to focus on their careers and put marriage off until they have established their careers, with the feminist lie being that men find a woman with a career attractive. Wrong, the only thing men give a shite about is if you are hot or not.
So women spend their prime years focusing on their career, then when they are ready to settle down in their 30s they are past their prime and have hit the wall and the Chads they use to tease and frick around with are no longer interested in them anymore.
That is what the real shortage is. Not a shortage of men, its a shortage of Chads interested in them. The Chads who gave these women attention in their 20s no longer find them attractive enough in their 30s, and instead just continue to go for younger women in their 20s. So women either have to be single and lonely cat ladies, or settle with a beta male that repulses them(see: The Jared "lets see where this goes" commercial.)

My first thought is wouldn't you get similar results in the past, even when more people became and stayed married?

No because slut shaming was a thing of the past, and women were not career focused in the past. If you weren't married by your mid 20s your town or society would think something was wrong with you.

Wat? No. If you really think this way little Braxton and Brayden will be finishing their east regional world series in time for their divorced step dad to come get them.

Because back in the day one of the primary selectors a woman used to pick a man to marry was whether or not he was financially stable enough to support her and a family. That's out the door now thanks to feminism and the government's war on the family unit.

Show me a woman who is hotter at 30 than she was at 20, hotter at 35 than she was at 25. I'll wait...

2 observations:
1- single women, on average, are piss poor at raising boys.
2- why buy the cow, and pay 1/2+ in the divorce, when you can milk it anytime you want and the government will pay for the occasional baby oops.
Just saying.

synthetic husbands
If a woman marries one of these, is it OK for him to provide her a synthetic diamond?

So us married guys would mop up if we were single.
But we can't because if we got divorced we would go from comfortable to poor.

No, he’s right.
And it’s the cruel truth of feminism, it just hurts women.
These women have pursued careers they hated, because we told them to, and they’ve missed out on the families they’ve always wanted. Worse yet, when they realize all of this, it’s often too late.
I don’t want to get too personal, but I went out for drinks with an old friend last year. I hadn’t seen her since grade school, and we were suddenly in the same town.
So I reached out.
I remembered the beautiful girl, and she was still beautiful, but age was catching up with her. She was still funny and engaging but I surprised myself. I wasn’t the least bit interested in her.
It was two things.
She looked so old to me, now, and that was important. But she also carried herself like an older person. You could see the fatigue in her eyes. The disappointment and failures, that she had experienced. There was also a sense of, almost, desperation. And that was unattractive.
Sitting at the table, across from her, I thought of my ex.
She had been 21, and like most young people, she was absolutely in love with the world, and the possibilities of life. She warm and happy, she had just adored me.
And her excitement was contagious.

Traditional social norms existed for a reason.
They were neither arbitrary or accidental.
The longer a girl waits, the worse her options are.

That makes me think of someone I used to know.
As she put it, you don’t always marry the love of your life. In her case, I think she actually despised her husband.
It didn’t make sense to me at the time. But I think I can appreciate her plight, now.
He was the best worst option.

Meh. I blame cats. Single women who have cats will remain single forever.
I guarantee every one of you knows a girl whose hopelessly single.
BECAUSE SHE OWNS A frickING CAT.

Cats are awesome. Don't blame cats because women have prioritized fool's gold over biological imperative and their own happiness.
