Exactly, yet this whole board seems to hate the poor by making it seem like they're all lazy assholes. Yet they'll defend the billionaires because they might see an increase in taxes.

I misread your post.

I took it as you were bitching about the cut. As far as the job thing , people who don't pay federal income taxes don't care that the Feds waste our money and would be against this.

I apologize , you were just saying it's a tiny amount compared to the deficit. I agree , but it's a start.

Liberals on here think people like you and I owe them something for their bad choices.

I personally think very few people are poor because of bad luck.

I support just about any cut in federal spending and I support this cut, but the federal budget savings is so tiny that it's not really worth mentioning. It's a rounding error. And reducing handouts for the poor is a much lower political risk for Congress than reducing handouts for political donors, who will fund your political opponents if you dare cross them.

The deficit was finally down to around $500 billion when Trump took office, now it's back over $1 trillion and this is happening with no wars and a strong economy. That's terrifying. Wars and economic recessions have been the primary cause of large deficits throughout our history. This is the first time we have ever had a massive deficit during peace time and an economic boom. When a war or recession inevitably comes, the deficit is going to spike to at least $2 trillion. That can only go on for so long before the house of cards collapses.

I'm no Democrat, so don't get me wrong when I complain about Republicans, including Trump. Republicans complained non-stop about deficits during Obama's presidency, and rightfully so. But since they've taken power of nearly the entire federal government, they've done nothing but increase the deficit. The deficit has nearly doubled in size since 2016. WTF?!?! And Trump is every bit as culpable as the corrupt fools in Congress. Trump is the one who pushed for an inexplicable increase in defense spending, which was really just a government handout to defense contractors. Aside from minuscule cuts like the food stamp cuts, Trump hasn't done a damn thing to reduce federal spending.

On top of that, I'm sick of people defending Trump on this issue. Trump has gotten a lot of unfair criticism, but this is one issue where he has gotten far too little.

I want Everything cut.

The only times I have gotten angry with Trump is because he keeps signing pork laden spending bills.

It should be a crime for any president to give our tax money to foreign countries , I don't care if it's only ten dollars.

If I were Trump I would have vetoed every spending bill unless it had dramatic cuts in every area. . I would then tell any Republicans who partake in overriding my veto , I will visit their state constantly to make sure they weren't re-elected.

Trump is by far the best president that working people have had in a long time.

I support this but there is an easier way. Just hide their food stamps under a pair of work boots. The lazy, worthless frickers would starve to death before they found them

He's been better than Obama, Bush, and Clinton, sure. But "by far"? I'm not convinced of that. Much of the economic growth under Trump is due to that trillion dollar deficit I mentioned. If you subtract the increased deficit spending (not all of the deficit, just the amount it has increased under Trump) from the GDP figures and the growth rate under Trump (2017 & 2018) drops from 2.7% down to 1.9%. In other words, about 1/3 of the GDP growth under Trump has been fueled by increased federal government spending.

You couldn’t be more wrong.

What bothers people that bust their arse on the grind to make a living is seeing people abuse the system. All of us routinely see people sliding their Louisiana Purchase cards to buy food and then load that food into a nice, late model vehicle.

Couple that with seeing people on public assistance with four little kids in tow and it rightfully breeds contempt as well it should.

No one hates someone for being poor. People just get aggravated watching people game the system that is paid for by the sweat of their brow.

It’s offensive.

There is absolutely no credible argument against this move.

Hence all the reporting is "people will lose food!" - an emotional ploy rather than an intelligent argument.

"Oh but my kids" - Not impacted

"Oh but I'm old!" - Not impacted

"Oh but my disability" - Not impacted

"Oh but unemployment is high here" - Not impacted

"Oh I've had trouble keeping a job more than a few weeks/months at a time" - Not impacted

You pretty much have to be purposefully avoiding work

For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.

I get that. The issue at hand is the system that perpetuates this problem. People shouldn't be leeches, but if you lay meat in front of wolves what do you expect.

I assume you read the article. Trump can only restrict the amount certain districts get because these states are purposely inflating their unemployment and using gerrymandering to get more aid. The majority of people abusing the system will still get stamps because the conditions for food stamps haven't really changed.

Actually anyone against this is enslaved by the government and is dependent upon it for their well being. To me...that's hell. I wouldn't want to be there...but there are some that continue to choose that path.

Not against it. But it's somewhat of a distraction.

Take a look at our current national debt. Its rising despite a strong economy. The amount spent on food stamps is literally pennies compared to political campaigning and defense spending. No need to mention social security.

It's a victory. It's just not a major one.

That's why EVERYTHING needs to be cut.

Democrats won't agree because their base loves handouts.

Republican politicians love foreign aid and a bloated defense budget so they can secure their kickbacks.

The argument about "pennies" is a talking point for politicians.

Our tax money should be spent in OUR country not some sorry arse foreign country.

I do. In America you have to be really lazy, really stupid and make a whole lot of wrong decisions to end up poor. It doesn't matter how poor you were born. I know. I did it. It was easy.
