In some states you can kill them 24/7. Others daylight only. I believe all require a license though.
Let's talk about Florida.
quote:
Wild hogs may be trapped and hunted year-round with landowner permission. A hunting license is not required, and a permit is not required to take wild hogs at night with a gun and light with landowner permission.
Hunters may use dogs and any legal rifle, shotgun, crossbow, bow, pistol or air gun (including airbow). There is no size or bag limit, and either sex may be harvested.
Wild hogs may be trapped using live traps (e.g., box traps, cage traps, corral traps)
They are such a nuisance that all rules, permits and licenses have been deemed not necessary. You know it is bad when they miss an opportunity to collect fees.

Ricky: "We like to have a lot of laughs on the racetrack, but today we wanna talk about something serious: Packs of stray dogs that control most of the major cities. That's packs of wild, vicious dogs that are controlling most of most of America's major cities."

5. Carry numerous diseases that are communicable to humans.
Probably every single one imaginable. Their sheer voraciousness and ability to reproduce has already made them an environmental disaster to Texas of biblical proportions.
They will drive out ALL but your smallest animals (mainly field mice and snakes), because they will kill or eat all the available food for your indigenous coyote, foxes, rabbits, whitetail, etc.
If you aggressively manage them them via all means (trapping, unrestricted hunting, bounties, etc.) and eliminate 90% of the population, that is enough remaining hogs completely recover the original population within 2 to 3 years.
Louisiana will have a Texas-sized hog problem before you can say Jack Robinson.

Cats are.
Stray cats, feral cats, and house cats that roam outside are a fricking nuisance.

I wish Bleeding Purple would drift into this thread.
He has forgotten more about feral hogs than most experts know.

Is it legal to shoot and kill these vermin without a hunting license?

Yeah I am pretty sure in Texas you can kill them pretty much whenever.

In Texas you can get in a helicopter and slaughter them with a machine gun
LINK
The problem is they breed at such an insane rate the population is still increasing

You don't have to spread them. Without exaggeration, a single boar and 2 sows can be 3 packs of 30ish feral hogs in 3 or 4 years.
That's WITH management. Unchecked and with ample food supply and habitat? Double that, easily.

I don't know about every state but I think it's open season all year long in Texas and Louisiana.

Worse menace than black bears
black bears are a native species, they are not a menace. They are a integral part of the ecosystem here.
Hunters will not stop the spread of hogs. Serious trapping efforts have to be made followed up with the use of judas hogs to find the remnant sounders. We shoot 20 or 30 a year and never see a decrease. We are going to get serious about trapping this year.

Just curious, where do they live? I've never heard of... well... any wild hogs around here. I am in no way doubting you, I'm just curious as to where they are.
Me neither.
I've heard of hogs in, say, Byhalia and Rossville, but not in Shelby County.
