I think this is noteworthy.

OM put 31 on Bama in Tuscaloosa; 37 on LSU in Oxford.

When the defense has needed to be good, they've been good. Moreso than any other unit in sports, defense is largely based on desire and emotion. When you are up three scores and realize you have an offense that can't be stopped, you don't stop trying, but there is a subconscious effect that leads to dialing it back if ever so slightly. This can cause problems against talented teams.

Other teams will take note and I'm sure we will get similar plays from anyone with an athletic QB.

Hopefully we make adjustments and be ready for it.

This guy gets it

ETA: game was never in doubt. Defense didn’t have to battle. If/when the defense needs to be good, I have confidence they will step it up. But that won’t be until SEC champ game at the earliest. Enjoy the offensive ride.

One of the worst things we can do is compare ourselves to Alabama or any other team. just keep winning games.

Is there anyone else we can play that fits that mold? Not the rest of the way in SEC or the CG. In the playoffs Lawrence and Fields can run a bit but they aren't using them that way too much (they're both around 300yds rushing on the year), Oregon & Utah don't use their QBs in the run game at all, Hurts can obviously run but I don't see them making the playoffs. Plumlee is at 1k rushing on the year, he's an anomaly.

Bama's defense isn't good and they aren't CFP worthy. We don't want to be Bama. We want to be better than that and get farther than where they're headed this year. Not a good comparison.

That's a good point. Another thing is with as good as our offense is, all the defense NEEDS to do is get a turnover or two, a big sack, just a couple timely stops to let the offense get a big enough lead. And for the most part, they've done that this year. I can't recall many instances when it was a one score game that the defense let us down.

We've had a lot of emotional games, lots of guys with nagging injuries. Assuming we get past the SEC championship, the rest we get before the playoffs start will be huge for them to hit the reset button and get healthy. Not calling for them to be elite all of a sudden, but to at least return to being serviceable

Exactly!
This is why I'm not really worried about our defense. All season long they've risen to the occasion when they had to. Let's face it.........................this is not a dominant defense. But they've been good against the run (save for this past game), and they're good in the red zone. I thought they were CLEARLY not as emotionally fired up, or focused on this past Saturday night, when compared to the Alabama game. But, that's gonna happen with college players. I think we'll be fine going forward.

I don’t give a frick what Alabama does or doesn’t do! It’s about LSU’s standard and they are under performing. Taking one game in a vacuum to make your point is not a strong argument.

We were getting out sceamed. We were not position to make plays. The holes were wide with no one near them to make a play. Rich Rod saw it and took advantage and we never really adjusted to what they were doing. That is after watching the game a second time. Just seemed like we made it pretty easy for them in the 2nd half once they made their adjustments.

You don’t think the defense will be up for A&M after what happened last year? Bruh.

This is simultaneous very true and very frustrating.

We can all agree alot of it is players (especially back 7) being out of position. So the question of the year up until we face Clemson or tOSU is: Are they out of position because of problems with the scheme, or is it because players aren't executing/doing their job? I.e., is it Aranda/scheme, or is it players.

Normally, despite the finger pointers tendency, it's rarely one thing. You rarely can just say that. It is normally a confluence or sequence of events/conditions that produce failure. So the normal answer is: both.

HOWEVER, because they seem so hot and cold, I'm leaning towards players. Now that's a whole bunch of things, effort, injuries, departures, preparation, etc. when you just say 'players' or 'execution'. But the hot and cold thing screams that. How do you execute so well against an option GASO and then LBs disappear against OM? Has to be a, or least vast majority of, 'players' answer.
