Yep - still remember the Clemson coach (Howard?) saying = "Just wait til they put their 3rd string on the field."

Was a great restaurant in the past. Now they need to shut that place down.

LSU won the national championship before the Clemson game, sportsfan

It's still an interesting bit of trivia

On the Monday after the 62-0 win over Tulane, LSU was declared national champions by both the Associated Press (sportswriters and sportscasters) and the United Press International (board of coaches). A representative of UPI presented Coach Paul Dietzel with the UPI National Championship trophy at the 1958 football team banquet held prior to the Jan. 1, 1959 Sugar Bowl game with Clemson. The Football Writers of America (an executive board -- not the membership) voted Iowa as the No. 1 team in the country. Iowa had been tied by Air Force (14-14 at Iowa City) and beaten by Ohio State (on the same day of LSU's 7-6 win over Miss. State in Jackson). The fact that the FWAA membership didn't vote on a national champion after the bowl game tarnished that selection.

If LSU would have beaten Tennessee in 1959, which a bad call likely kept them from winning, they would have won the national championship again even though Ole Miss 1/9’d LSU in the Sugar Bowl.

I hear that new one in Slidell just north of the twinspans is failing miserably. Overpriced, mediocre food and poor service is killing it.

Almost every sports mag had their own list

I remember one of them ranked LSU #1 in 1963, after they blanked Texas in the Cotton Bowl. I don't believe the Tigers was the AP or UPI choice as #1 that year.

Like they did with Mulate's in Breaux Bridge. It was the bomb back in the day, but I remember going there one afternoon in June of 2002. The place had no customers and the food was terrible

True but I think what he is saying is the AP was who the media and public recognized as NC. And they had their last vote before the Bowl games. You can go look at other seasons and see that LSU was recognized by other services/mag's as NC. Until the BCS the NCAA did not have an official NC. There was one other poll that was widely accepted as determining the NC, that was the UPI (United Press International, basically college football coaches) It wasn't until the early 1970's they waited until after the bowls to crown their champ. It wasn't until 1968 that the AP waited until after bowl games to crown their champ. So basically before then the bowl games didn't factor into the accepted services to crown the NC.

You’re just wrong on this one, Jeaux. The AP poll is what mattered. Period! And the AP poll that mattered came out before the Bowl games. The Bowl games were just exhibitions that had zero bearing on the mythical national championship. Please stop arguing.

Also, the National Championship Game has been played in NOLA 3 times since the BCS was started (2003 season). LSU has played in 100% of those games.

Wrong. Virginia tech vs FSU 1999 was in the sugar bowl. Stared a guy you might have heard of. Michael Vick
