And the Hans Solo / Greedo scene was changed. Again.

At this point I sorta wish Star Wars would go away and stay gone.

quote:

At this point, even casual Star Wars fans are familiar with the ‘Han shot first’ debate, so there’s no need to go over that in detail again. But even taking that into account, one thing that had remained constant was Han Solo getting the last word in before Greedo met his untimely demise. Not so in the version of A New Hope airing on Disney+ (which is offering a free seven-day trial), as before he gets shot, Greedo exclaims (checks notes) “Maclunkey!”

Y'all need to tap the brakes. George Lucas made that edit well before Disney purchased LucasFilm.

Maclunkey is supposedly the same alien language used in Ep. I during the podrace. It supposedly means "This will be the end of you"

In the original Han is the ONLY one who shot. He blew away a scummy bounty hunter in cold blood because his life depended on it.

Han was a low life criminal who associated with other low life criminals. It's part of what makes his character arc interesting.

But still, he was at gunpoint against a bounty hunter who'd just declared his intention to kill him. Han shooting first was completely justified.

I don't know why Lucas has obsessed over this. Not even a modern court would convict Solo.

Absolutely. The idea of there being some sort of moral code amongst the people Han ran with is ridiculous. Han ran in a world of liars, thieves, and backstabbers. Every man for himself. Nobody in that world would be shocked or appalled by what Han did, I mean the whole bar just looked over for a minute and then went back to partying. Most of them would laugh at Greedo for being stupid.

It set the tone for who he was from the get go, so much swagger.

We are done here.

Han shooting first and then flipping a credit to the barkeep for the mess is what establishes the character as, well, Han.

Han is a scumbag. A scoundrel. A bounty hunter with no moral compass.

That’s what makes his redemption and return to save the day so gripping.
