I’ve seen a bunch of publications start posting their best of the decade lists and thought it would be fun to do a list. I remember starting this same thread on the Movie/TV Board ten years ago (Music Board didn’t exist yet). This list is strictly my favorites. Not trying to rank cultural significance or what is objectively the best. It skews heavy towards indie rock. I decided to rank 25 (but originally miscounted), so here are 26 albums. A lot of the rankings could slide up or down a few spots depending on the day.

1. Titus Andronicus- The Monitor
2. The War on Drugs- Lost in a Dream
3. Sufjan Stevens- Carrie and Lowell
4. Jeff Rosenstock- Worry.
5. LCD Soundsystem- This is Happening
6. Arcade Fire- The Suburbs
7. Cloud Nothings- Attack On Memory
8. Deakin- Sleep Cycle
9. Fleet Foxes- Helplessness Blues
10. Tame Impala- Currents
11. The National- High Violet
12. Purple Mountains- Purple Mountains
13. Car Seat Headrest- Teens of Denial
14. Deerhunter- Halcyon Digest
15. Kanye West- My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
16. The War on Drugs- A Deeper Understanding
17. Japandroids- Celebration Rock
18. Vampire Weekend- Modern Vampires of the City
19. Bon Iver- Bon Iver
20. Big Thief- Capacity
21. Animal Collective- Centipede Hz
22. Beach House- Bloom
23. The Tallest Man on Earth- The Wild Hunt
24.Parquet Courts- Wide Awake!
25a. Slowdive- Slowdive
25b. Sioux Falls- Rot Forever

Here is the thread from 2009 on best albums from 2000-2009. Haven’t seen a lot of those posters in a long time. LINK

Solid list. I’ve got to put metamodern sounds in there. I would also add strokes angles, Kendrick Lamar DAMN., Beirut Rip Tide.

Edit: currents, High Violet, suburbs and Carrie and Lowell are probably my top four. In that order.

Carrie and Lowell - Sufjan Stevens is my winner. A near-perfect , crazily-melodic , somber/ nostalgic/sad reflection on childhood, family, memories and loss. It sets the mood from the first moment and never stops building. I understand that people think it’s a downer and I wouldn’t want that to be the only thing I’m listening to but its just an incredible album.

That said, when I look at your list , I feel sad for quality artists of this decade. Brilliance toils in anonymity and shitevomit is ubiquitous.

1. Lord Huron - Strainge Trails
2. Lord Huron - Lonesome Dreams
3. The Black Keys - Brothers
4. The Avett Brothers - The Carpenter (had it been made one year later, I and Love and You might be #1)
5. Cage the Elephant - Melophobia
6. The National - High Violet
7. Joe Pug - Messenger (really tuff choice choosing one of his)
8. Bon Iver - Bon Iver
7. Jason Isbell - Something More Than Free
8. Dawes - All Your Favorite Bands
9. Grouplove - Never Trust a Happy Song
10. The Head and the Heart - Self Titled
11. Jason Isbell - Something More Than Free
12. Josh Ritter Sermon on the Rocks (just a courtesy to Josh Ritter, he needs to be on any list)
13. Alt-J - This Is All Yours
14. Kings of Leon - Come Around Sundown (fight me)
15. The Lumineers - Self Titled
16. Middle Brother - Self Titled
17. Alt-J - An Awesome Wave

Thats a quick list and im sure im forgetting a number and i'd have to think about what rap/r&b id add in. If it was released a few months later, Mumford and Sons 1st album would be near the top of the list.

Kendrick's DAMN (still a good album though) is the worst project he put out this decade imo. My order from best to worse is TPAB, GKMC, Section 80, DAMN. To Pimp a Butterfly is easily top 5 this decade overall and the best hip hop album of the decade, barely above MBDTF by Kanye. I know this board doesn't like hip hop, but man the second half of this decade produced incredible stuff.
