Maybe not. But whos easier to sell to... an intelligent senior who will still get 30ish minutes or 18 year olds who think they're steph curry? So heres my opinion.

smart\mays\hyatt
bishop\mays\manning\hyatt
taylor\mays\manning
emmitt\days
watford\cooper\thomas

Will Wade thinks the world of Skylar Mays. Not a chance of him coming off the bench.

how does everyone take that as a slight if youre still getting 30 minutes? its a key position if you dont have scorers off the bench.

Do you think watford is off the bench?

Smart again? no way

Or you can just put all your scorers to start.

How about this... ill bet a week ban and vice versa that in the first 3 games mays, smart or wartford come off the bench. If there is no reported injuries, just 1 game counts on my behalf.

any takers?

G - Mays/Bishop

Mays is the best player on the team. Incredible defense and can run the fast break better than anyone, plus is the most clutch player on the team. Splitting him with anyone is an insult.

Have you followed LSU basketball in the last 3 years? A freshman guard isn’t coming in and taking Mays spot. Mays will be the glue of this team buddy.

Bishop will see minutes behind Smart at the 1.

Its only an insult if youre not aware of what you need from your team, instead of yourself. Like i said he may not be your 6th man\scorer off the bench, but he would be the best to handle the responsibility with this type of team.

I believe you lost your top 2 scorers, steal leader, assist leader, and rebounder. Mays is dynamic, and an outstanding leader. This may or not be the position for your x factor from last year. But unless Wade sees it from another player, he can do whatever is needed, if that means coming off the bench or dropping down to 3 for many minutes, which i see happening.

Just an idea.

3 years? Have you followed it? Cause Wade hasnt been here 3 years? And hes a great coach. Alls im saying is you need a glue off the bench with this team, just my opinion. And its not taking his position if the freshman is only playing 8-12 minutes a game.

Thomas didn’t play in the exhibition and may not play much this season. Cooper played 1 minute in the exhibition. This tells how much those players will be counted on.

So really it’s just Watford. And he’s more 6’7 -6’8.

The good news is we have plenty of mismatches at the guard position. Villanova teams in past years have been built very similarly. We’re just going to have to shoot a high percentage this year:

Watford could come off the bench early.

I think Mays and Smart are entrenched. Those are the two best players on a guard oriented team.

On a deeper & more balanced team maybe you play with one of them being on the 2nd unit. Mays is a SR, they are going to treat him like the great program player he has been.

From all Wade has said and the numbers posted so far from Spain and La. Tech, I really doubt that Watford comes off the bench. He will start most games if he is healthy unless something changes. But, there will be a lot of minutes split between Watford, Days, and Williams. I could be wrong, but I believe Williams came off the bench in the La. Tech game, but was near high in minutes played.

A big question will be if Wade can get any quality minutes from Cooper or Thomas down low. Could be important against bigger teams, foul trouble and/or injury to the three mentioned above.

I think Watford, Days, Manning, Smart and Mays will be a possible starting lineup.

Williams will rotate in and spell Watford and Days. All three may have similar 30 plus minutes each game.

Taylor and Hyatt will spell Manning.

Bishop will rotate in for Smart and Mays. Graves could come in for a few minutes here and there as he did last year.

Variations will occur as season goes on with injuries, match ups, player development, etc.

I think Watford starts too. But he’s a freshman. Anything can happen

Starters against LT were Watford, Days, Manning, Mays and Smart. Taylor wasn't available but considering he was a starter last year I would pencil him in place for Manning, but Manning could very easily take that spot from him. Manning is more basketball savvy than Taylor but Taylor Wade thinks really improved from a basketball perspective from last year and isn't just so much an athlete playing basketball any more.

Williams and Days will probably be co-starters in a way, dont expect either to see much less than 30 minutes a game on average.

Bishop will play a good bit off the bench. So will Aundre Hyatt. I dont expect Cooper or Thomas to get a ton of playing time off the bench.

You missed my whole point. Mays has been here for 3 years...

I don't know if I'd call Mays the "best" player on the team, but I think he is certainly the most consistent and reliable. For that reason alone he will likely lead LSU in minutes played this season. And no, he's not coming off the bench to do it.

As for the starting line up, I think you see:

Smart
Mays
Manning/Taylor (I say Manning is the starter most of the time)
Williams/Days (depending on matchup, but both will play "starters" minutes
Watford (he's a potential one and done. You don't waste your one year with those guys on the bench)
