Maybe it’s because of the losing streak to the Tide? Not sure.

I think the real reason is the CFP. There was more urgency to win in 2011 under the BCS, but obviously that didn’t matter in the end.

Now, a loss does not end anybody’s season. I think a 1 loss Bama or LSU gets into the CFP, barring a UGa upset in Atlanta. It almost feels like some shine has been taken off of a #1 v #2 matchup.

Probably won’t even be 1 vs 2 once the rankings come out

Defense/Special Teams sets the tempo and we don't have near as electrifying squads for either this year.

It's going to be a hell of a game!

LSU and Alabama were far and away the best two teams that year. Not the case this year

LSU and Alabama were unbelievable that year

2011 was a way bigger matchup

Its because the programs are so uneven now. We are waiting to see if we have really gotten back to that elite level.

Nah 2011 didnt have 2011 already. It was the first time.

Now we have seen it. Hell last year was 1 v 3.

More likely because the first GotC turned out to be a bit of a disappointment for most people. Of course, some people love a low scoring defensive battle, but most don't.

Up until that point, it was thought that the BCS Championship Game's creation in 2006 had solved that problem, so yeah there was more urgency on winning your conference that year. Whatever you think of the playoffs, you are experiencing the negative side affects of it's creation.

Nah. I think it's the first one. Alabama was actually a rival then. Saban had only been there a few years and there was a ton of animosity in LSU's fanbase.

2011 GOTC was basically the national championship game. Whoever won was pretty much a lock to win it all

Of course the didn't happen but that was what the idea was going into the game

Nobody else in the country even mattered that year

Agree completely.

It's got to be because they've owned us for 8 years

I think it had more to do with the 2011 teams were so dominant that it was clear nobody else in college football was on the same level that season. And both had all-time great defenses....defense get people hyped up.

Probably due to tMulligan and the shattering of the illusion that every game matters.

If Bama loses, they get a pass.

Lessens the urgency.

Why do people keep saying this game doesn’t mean anything? I for one would not want to put my teams date in the hands of 13 people. Winning this game is huge for getting into the playoff without any doubt. I don’t care if we play Bama once we get there.

Right now the goal is to make the SEC Championship and then the playoffs. When that happens then I’ll worry about LSU winning a National Championship.

Nope, not even close. Plenty of reasons too:

-We’ve seen this “premier” matchup plenty of times.
-LSU’s inability to win, and keep it competitive
-Tua’s injury
-Alabama getting the doors blasted off by Clemson causes them to lose that mystique
-No one can say either team is definitively better than Clemson or Ohio State
-Apathy
