In the market for a new smoker. Budget is under $1000 w/ accessories (cover + grease catcher). I’ve narrowed it down to two options. Green mountain grills Daniel Boone or the Grilla Grills Silverbac. Does anyone have any experience with either one of these, good or bad??

I've had my GMG DB for years and love it, haven't had any major issues. That said, if I had to buy another pellet grill tomorrow, it'd be a Rec Tec RT-700. It's a little higher than you budget, but they do have smaller ones within your budget.

I also recommend the Rec Tec line of products. I have the RT-700 and love it.

I have the Daniel Boone and have no complaints. I've had it a year now and use it often.

How much meat do you normally smoke on it at a time?

If you're only doing one butt or two, is it a major waste of pellets?

I have had my Grilla Silverback for two years and simply love it. We have not experienced any problems or issues.
Cooks wonderfully. Wholeheartedly endorse it.

I did a 5 hour St. Louis and a 10 hour chuck roast into burnt ends and used about a half of the pellets in the drop box. Did not refill box the entire day.

In the summer, one hopper full will last all night. Im actually smoking sausages and salmon on my DB right now. You can smoke as low as 150 for things like jerky, or go up to 500 if you're doing burgers or something. I also have the pizza oven attachment, so can do wood fired pizzas at around 750 degrees.

Oh, and I got a 20 dollar rack on Amazon so I have more smoking space if needed. The DB can handle 4 racks as it comes.

Hard to beat Rec Tec’s stainless steel cooking chambers, 4 year warranties and outstanding customer service. I’ve got the stampede and have no regrets.

Have a friend with a Daniel Boone GMG and he has had no issues. Good value for the money.

If you’re serious about smoking, you’ll skip on pellets and use actual wood.

If you are free later, I can go find the other pellet smoker threads from the last year so you can shite on them to. You seem to have this boiler plate statement ready to paste.

I gave one of my sons a GMG DB and he loves it, likes the portability, another son I bought a Pit Boss as he wanted a heavier stationary model and he likes it as well, both were Christmas gifts.

Both work very well at their price point.

I bought a Yoder YS640 for myself before they got popular and there is no comparison to the two previously mentioned.

Honestly I would suggest to anyone they save a bit and step up to one or rec teck, memphis, MAC, etc, the difference in controllers and construction is night and day.

Saw at our local hardware store that Oklahoma Joe is making a pellet smoker now. I don't have any experience with any of them but it looked impressive.

I'd second this. I personally went with the Pitts & Spitts Maverick, but same concept. I would step it up a notch and get one with a thicker and better construction that will last you much longer.
