The 4th down try from their own 30

I don't think we properly discussed this yesterday. The fact that the Cardinals were so desperate, down by four, to go for it in the third quarter, shows you how much they respected our team. The score was not indicative of how we were playing

The fact that the Saints stopped it shows how great the defense is performing.

The call just shows how bad of a coach Kingsbury is. The guy is a joke and is one of the dumbest coaching hires I’ve seen.

Cardinals were not going to win the game without gambling some.
I think they were trying to win.
4 and 1 seemed like a worthwhile gamble under the circumstances to me.
Saints made them pay but the Cardinals had them in a third and long so they came close to holding to a field goal chance.
It was risky and it didn't work out.

The Saints have one of, if not THE most underrated DL in all of football. Jordan is one of the best two-way DE's in the game. Omenyata is a great run stuffer. Davenport, while still raw, has his moments. Rankins is sound and the addition of Brown makes the run D even better.
Then you combine the efforts of Davis (maybe the best MLB in the Payton era) along with Von Bell who has really played well this year, and the Saints are tough to move the ball against.
Bridgwater gets all of the credit from the media for keeping the ship afloat while Brees was out, but it was really the defense that did most of the heavy lifting.

A worthwhile gamble would be going for it on 4th down in Field Goal range...not on your own 30, only down by 4!

That was the worst 4th down try (in regards to clock, field position, and score) I've seen, no doubt. Finally found one worse than the Falcons 4th down try on MNF against us several years ago; at least that one was towards the end of the game. Mike Smith will tell you that was his worst call in coaching.

Terrible decision. Wrong end of the field against the #2 rushing defense .

While you may be right, I remember the great Bill Belichick making a very similar dumbass decision in the dome a couple years ago.

I think the call to go for it was ok. The decision to run under center was not wise.
Spread us out and give Kyler the option to make a play.

I don’t think it was that bad of a decision. He could feel the momentum slipping away as the play disparity mounted and took a chance. Saints D just won the play.

There’s a long thread on the MSB.
It was a bone headed play. It was at yh wrong time, the wrong place on the field and completely wrong set of circumstances. It ended any hope of them winning the game. The Saints completely took over the game from that point forward.
Down by 4 in the middle of the third quarter on your own 29 is no way to call plays. It was demoralizing to his team when they didn’t get it.

Nobody makes such a stupid decision
THAT call was the turning point in the game
Down by 4 early in 3rd? PUNT isn't an Einstein decision

It was 100% the correct call even if not intuitive. Hats off to Kingsbury for embracing analytics and logic and maximizing his small percentage chance of winning, instead of succumbing to the bullshite that is conventional wisdom in football decision making.

I think it was a calculated risk for the Cards.
1) They were already down 7 points.
2) If they punt, the Saints go on a 5+ minute drive and the 3rd quarter is gone and you are down 14.
3) You need a signature win. You were 3-3-1 and are not going to the playoffs. Not in that division.

We were mystified by that call. It just turned the whole 4th quarter into a joke and a big rowdy party. My take on it was, sometimes you just reach a point in the game where you break the other team's back, and the rest of the game they just lay there crumpled on the turf....their will was broken at that point. It ended the game sooner but if they'd punted there, the game would have been a game for a couple more series. But not by much.
