What would it take for the SEC to commit to men's soccer?

If the SEC could make this happen it could be a game changer for men's soccer in America. Popularity is not an excuse. These schools already boast some pretty ridiculous sports.

What schools give scholarships for those? If you want a commitment from the league, you'd have to drop a men's sport that all 14 schools participate in... there are only a handful of those to begin with

Either that or remove football from the Title IX equation.

I think most schools probably have a cross country team that get scholarships. I doubt any give scholarships for fishing.

College Men's Soccer is irrelevant, that's the problem. If players start to make $$$ then maybe college teams can work out deals with pro teams from all over, becoming feeder teams for the pros. That's if college soccer ease up on the regulations, etc. There's a movement right now for reform b/c it's obvious the best players are avoiding ncaa soccer like the plague.

Money, right now Men's soccer would lose money for every SEC school.

Soccer doesn't really make anyone money

College soccer would need a major overhaul

in terms of practice times, fixtures and the overall rules of the game

College soccer isn't real soccer

Just about every sport that's not football or basketball loses money.

And that can be amended to “men’s basketball”

Besides paying coaches, cost of scholarships, travel, etc, I don't know how much universities would have to pay to add men's soccer. Most SEC schools already have women's soccer, so they won't have to build new facilities.

They would probably lose less money than the women's teams do.

I know that Kentucky and South Carolina have teams that play in Conference USA. Vandy had a team at one point.

Cross Country is just an extension of the track programs. Most cross country runners that have scholarships are usually academic scholarship.

Cross Country is a very cheap sport

Yea we play in the CUSA
Not sure what men’s sport we don’t have because of it.
Not like I care or watch to be honest.
I only follow football and men’s basketball

I do know we added a women’s sand volleyball team.
Another stupid team taking money away from football and basketball

Dropping a sport.

College soccer for men sucks. The best players skip college and you need to be already pretty damn good before you are college age.

Miles Robinson, Julian Gressel, Jordan Morris, Clint Dempsey, Darlington Nagbe, Deondre Yedlin, Carlos Bocanegra, Stuart Holden, Brian Ching, Jay Demerit and many others say hello.

It may not be the best path but worst is one of two?

Lol it worked to an extent 15 years ago

But now the talented kids are skipping it

College soccer is bloated with non Americans especially bc there is no squad limit

The amount of legit American pros that will come out of the college ranks will continue to shrink

It’s bad like real bad, look what Jack Harrison did in only one season, and he was an average Man United youth academy kid
