College soccer is bloated with non Americans especially bc there is no squad limit
I was shocked a few years back when I realized 70% of the roster of the nearby regional private liberal arts school was comprised of foreigners. Not even Hispanic, the majority were English and German. I don't know how these guys even found this school on the map.

I used to party with the soccer team at WVU when Geoff Cameron played there
There was like 5 dudes from New Zealand
One kept trying to get me and my boy to go to open tryouts bc how bad some people who made the team are.
He was like basically if your fit enough to run a lot you have a chance to make the team bc it’s all focused on pace and less on technical abilities
What he said makes sense bc of the substitution rules.

Another stupid team taking money away from football and basketball

It definitely has its place can still play a role. Could be better by changing some of the rules.

Landon Donovan, Weston McKennie, Christian Pulisic, Michael Bradley, Jozy Altidore, and many others also say hello. College soccer should not be relied upon for anything. It had its place when there wasn't a development structure in place, but otherwise it's a massive waste of time for everyone involved.

It has a place as in not everyone will be picked up by a pro team when they're a teen. The college system fills in the cracks. The elite talent though should never go through the college route.

I don't think anyone is arguing that.
But college soccer can help guys that slipped through the cracks, late bloomers, etc. I think SEC schools adding men's teams could encourage greater participation from kids and have them stay in the game longer, broadening our pool.

I agree, and think it would broaden the audience as a whole.

meh
the problem is the culture of supporting soccer in SEC country isn't huge.
Other than Mizzou i dont see anyone else going crazy for it
shite even in the soccer hot beds like the east coast and cali college soccer is an after thought.

College Men's Soccer is irrelevant, that's the problem. If players start to make $$$ then maybe college teams can work out deals with pro teams from all over, becoming feeder teams for the pros. That's if college soccer ease up on the regulations, etc. There's a movement right now for reform b/c it's obvious the best players are avoiding ncaa soccer like the plague.
Yooo this now becomes an actual viable option with the NCAA now allowing players to make money.
MLS or USL clubs send kids who can't crack it in their academy at the age of 18 as some type of last chance U into college soccer. Cover the cost the Uni won't and maybe funnel some extra money into it.

Part of that could be lack of college/pro teams. Who are you going to support when there's no one to support? But as college centric as SEC fans are, adding the sport would give the sport some legitimacy to many of them. It would give them a built in team to support. It would give kids an avenue to college, likely getting greater support from their parents. Once these groups get older, then you can introduce them to club academies and how the professional side works. I think the academy system is to foreign to many people in this region and they may not know about it or trust it enough to encourage their kids to get serious about soccer. SEC scholarship potential could be a gateway to at least get them in the door, which is something we should encourage. Saying "college sucks, it's useless, shut it down", etc is the wrong take. Instead, it's another tool at our disposal that can be useful, it just needs some small changes.

its not part of the culture to like soccer in that part of the country. Still looked at as a game for girls and not for Americans

it does suck
don't shut down but it needs a ton of changes
you are part of the problem so of course you think it needs some "small" changes
College soccer isn't even the same game as real soccer

A longer season, more practice time, and only 3 subs is are fairly small changes.

actually no its not
esp with how the NCAA works with class time and practice limits even on football and basketball
Posted on 10/29/19 at 2:59 pm to StraightCashHomey21
They get 20 hours a week of practice time during the season and 8 hours a week during the offseason. I think the season currently lasts 5 months. Basketball lasts about 6 months. Extending the season a month and a half would add quite a bit of practice time, and/or adding a winter break while still allowing the 20 hours a week.

Honestly your opinion is worth shite
Even with those limited added hours they are so far behind their counter parts the same age that are considered full on professionals

Cool. Let's just keep it in case they produce anyone else of any quality. That's a brilliant way of setting up a youth system.
What would encourage participation would be more money in the game in terms of player salaries. That's the long and short of it. College soccer is a wasteland. SEC teams aren't going to adopt men's teams.

I always said ncaa soccer would be ideal for age group of 14-18.
Posted on 10/30/19 at 2:11 pm to RollTide4Ever
My son’s at the beginning of that age group...and he’s in a strange place with youth soccer. Be cool if he could make a development team for a local semi-pro team, but last I looked they started at 16. Not sure if college could duplicate that instruction, likely not from the beginning.
He goes to a national team feeder tryout this weekend. We’ll see if anyone gets called up from this one.
