A new idea for student loan debt

I still think this is a terrible idea, but at least it handles what to do with people who already paid back their debt.
Now... how far back does this go? And, what about the future? To me, those are important, unanswered questions.

Johnson proposes forgiving $50,000 in student debt for all borrowers, about $925 billion, according to the newspaper. For people who’ve already repaid their debt, he suggests offering them a $50,000 tax credit. The plan would be paid for with a 1% tax on corporate earnings.

Here’s a better idea: pay your bills you willingly signed up for

fricking stupid. People who didn’t go to college helping pay back debt for those that did (at least somewhat)

Or say frick that and people pay the debts they signed up for.

it does nothing for the people who worked their asses off to not take off loans, or who were smart and went to local colleges instead of out of state/private and got a degree with a better cost to worth ratio
fed gov needs to get out of student loan business

Debtors prison would be much more effective.

frick that
I worked, went to class and worked some more to be able to afford a college lifestyle.
I would get jack shite - and worked my arse off during college.

The problem isn't loaning money, the problem is the GOVERNMENT in charge is charging these kids 8 and 9% interest. If taxpayers are lending money to tomorrows leaders, then it should be at 0 or 1% max interest. We are ripping off these youngsters. It's an investment into our country's future. And ZERO loans to non citizens !

What about the people who didn't take the loan because they knew they couldn't afford it?
Just give $50,000 to everyone? sounds great except that would destroy the world economy (no exaggeration).

Taxpayers should not be doing this.

Why don’t we just give everyone $50k? I have taken out zero loans in my life.

No it’s not, it’s an invitation to spend more than needed to accomplish whatever the goal is, especially at 0-1% interest. I have no desire to subsidize a bunch of kids studying bullshite while getting high.

Don’t get into any unless you know you’ll get a fricking job that can pay for it

At least make the loans zero interest loans. Interest on 90k is straight up bull shite for a college student just entering the work force
especially if its a FAFSA loan
especially if its a FAFSA loan

which is a direct tax on everyone's 401k and Pension plans, as these plans are predominately in blue chip corporations.......

So don’t take out loans for that much. Live at home with parents and go to local school.

Let the market decide the rate. Seeing a 12% interest rate for a gender studies degree from Yale should open some eyes.
Then again, don't tempt stupid.

I have an idea. What if the students graduate, get a job, and then pay the loan back.

Student loan debt is a great scam to create another dependent class that will vote for Democrats. It's like the mafia loaning money to someone they know can't pay and then basically using them for whatever they need.
