The drug company Biogen Inc. said Tuesday it will seek federal approval for a medicine to treat early Alzheimer’s disease, a landmark step toward finding a treatment that can alter the course of the most common form of dementia.
The announcement was a surprise because the company earlier this year stopped two studies of the drug when partial results suggested it was not likely to be successful. The company now says a new analysis of more results suggest that the drug helped reduce a decline of thinking skills at the highest dose.
The drug, called aducanumab, aims to help the body clear harmful plaques from the brain. Cambridge, Massachusetts-based Biogen is developing it with a Japanese company, Eisai Co. Ltd.

It works, but they forgot.

I think i'd gladly take a drug for early alzheimers even if it had bad side effects, and shortened my life.
I don't think there is a worse disease for an adult.

I'd rather not know I'm pooping on myself than have anal cancer and know I'm pooping on myself.

The patient isn't suffering so much as their family is, you selfish frick.

Well, they have a lot of $$$ invested and the FDA is owned by big pharm so why wouldn't they start selling it to desperate people.

Yeah, that makes me want it even more knowing it won't hurt. I have a grandma that thinks Joe Burrow is her son and hopes he wins the Heisman. She is happy as frick and she gets to meet new people every day.
Don't tell me about people's family as if that moves the needle, I would much rather see her like this than wasting away from a stroke like my gramps did. Or cancer. Or whatever the frick.
Now who's selfish? What I get from this is you'd rather your family member die in pain so that you don't has the sads when you go visit them because they don't know you. Now thats being a selfish frick right there.

Alzheimers patients suffer like crazy. They have no idea wtf is going on and are constantly on edge and terrified. If I ever get it I'm sailing my boat into a hurricane to save me and my family the pain of it.

A family friend who's a retired pastor shot himself last year. The consensus was that he must have gotten a diagnosis.

Guess you never had to deal with someone that came down with Alzheimer's.
Cancer sucks, BUT Alzheimer is 10X worse to deal with.
If I had a choice, I would take Cancer 10 fold over.

I told my wife that if I was able and diagnosed, that I would just go somewhere to die peacefully instead of draining her and the kids to watch it happen.
If I am unable to just go I told her to wait until the first time I don't recognize her and then never come back. Have a service and be done. I'll be dead at that point anyway. When you get the call that my body finally kicked the bucket, have em burn me and bury the ashes.,

I know someone who was diagnosed in his late 40s. All I can think of is the things he will likely miss out on, like his kids graduating high school, etc.

Judging from your brashness I’m guessing you’ve never seen a patient in the later stages...

and they realize bit by bit things they will never be able to do again over a period of years
A big reason I am not too concerned about being fat is I would prefer a massive heart attack to either alzheimer's or cancer, having experienced a parent with each of them.

You've never worked with the FDA if you think it's owned by big Pharma.
