do you need a good source for high quality movies to expand your library?
i can likely help there a well as a couple others on this board.
Current system (just a repurposed older desktop) is sitting at about 98% usage with about 12TB of total videos.

still see a disk format being around for a long time for the niche market that enjoys better sound and picture than streaming sites.

I don't think I'll ever not have a 4K BluRay player. I can't spend 2K on a TV and not get the best of it out of principle. I buy then resell after watching, I have no use for a movie after I've watched it once.
But I only watch maybe 15 movies a year tops anyways. Half of those are $2-5 4K rentals from Vudu and the ones with HDR10 and/or Atmos I buy disc and resell.

There's no comparison, especially in terms of audio. No streaming site does TrueHD and/or DTS-HD. If you have a good surround sound system and enjoy an immersive audio experience, physical discs are still the way to go

This
Not saying buying blu ray is for everyone but if you have money invest in a nice system and want to get the most out of it physical media is the way to go. I think this will only grow as we move away from going to movie theaters and people try to reproduce that experience at home.

+1
Also, both the PS5 and the Xbox Series X will have 4K blu ray players. This will significantly increase the number of 4K players world wide.
Btw, I've got this coming in a couple days:

Your argument is someone is going to spend all this money on equipment but opt for a bluray device on every tv and disks scattered in drawers instead of configuring a media server for all their content?
Just lol. That sounds like an awfully dated approach.

Guess that would depend on the homeowner and what equipment they want in different areas. Most will just have it in the main media area or theater room since people usually buy a nice display there and go cheaper in other rooms. But with distributed audio video it wouldn’t be hard to share that source throughout the home without having blu ray players in every room.
I get it brah, Plex is your new Wink. That’s great, I’m glad you like it. It’s a much better product than that Wink crap you pushed here for years. If I had the desire to have a library of media I would add one to my system, but I don’t find it necessary.

Keeping up with stacks of Blu-ray disks is as pointless as having a huge collection of CDs in 2020 and just dumb when the quality continues to evolve to invest in a point-in-time format.
Makes zero sense when the entire world has moved online and you can update to a better quality copy without having to go buy it over and over.
I know. I have Blade Runner on everything from VHs to laserdisc and the failed hddvd. At this point those are simply a curiosity I keep around.
Do I enjoy a better experience? You're damn right. I have 4 or 5 different versions of Star Wars from a 35mm film print to the un-fixed version Lucas screwed up to 4K and other fan edits.
How would I be able to watch those on Blu-ray?
I can't think of a single argument for collecting plastic disks in 2020.

Meh, just rent the movies if you're going digital route (or buy if a favorite). No reason to have some big Plex setup. Unless you're the type that spends $12 on a movie theater ticket but won't spend $5.99 to rent one in 4K.

LSU games? TV series? Live TV?
Can't imagine a world where I'm chasing disks down to watch my favorite shows or not having access to my favorite stuff on the road in one place.

Oh I pay for satellite so can't relate there. This thread is kinda more about movies though so my point still stands. If you're going digital, really no reason to not just rent/buy on Vudu/Fandango these days. 4K rentals are the same price as regular HD.

Hey, frick you, it's my money to waste as I want.
While illegal, downloading REMUX movies is the most high quality and convenient way to consume media. You get 100% of the quality of BR and don't have to sweat any of the other stuff.
What can I say though? I'm a data hoarder with 40TB+ of storage space to fill. And it makes it easy to share with others remotely so they can enjoy the same files.
No one else seems to enjoy my well procured death metal collection from Lidarr though.

That's exactly why I said that, so common.
I used to torrent like crazy, but these days I just wait for movies to release for rent and if I'm going digital it takes 3 presses on my remote to have it going in 4K HDR for $5.99. I don't mind versus say $12 at a theater for less quality.

I don't believe remux's have Dolby Vision.

Commercial free 60fps national championship.
I don't keep my shitty dvr copies of games or anything else. Much better versions out there.

Nice, I had the Super Bowl in 4K HDR and it was fantastic.
I'll never give up my precious satellite though, and I got Sunday Ticket for free this year.

.MKV doesn't support Dolby Vision, .MP4 doesn't support lossless audio my friend. Thus, no true Dolby Vision.
