When the B1G added Maryland and Rutgers

What a waste. Those teams are garbage. I don't know how it adds more viewers when Rutgers is worse than a division 2 school in football. Nebraska has been a waste too. They are lucky if they go .500
Missouri and Texas a&m we're better additions to the SEC.

I heard this somewhere and I'm convinced it's true: it wasn't only TV that caused the Big 10 to add Maryland and Rutgers. It was the fact they would be practically guaranteed wins for a post-Jerry Sandusky Penn State program. Rutgers football is historically awful and a good year for Maryland means you play Boston College in the Pinstripe Bowl.

they had to get all those NYC area college football fans

I’ve said this in numerous threads about this already but I’ll say it again: it’s not about viewers. It’s about paid subscribers. DC and NYC are huge markets for extra revenue. Doesn’t matter what the ratings are when subscriptions are paid. If the bubble bursts, then the B1G can reevaluate those teams at a later date.

Missouri has won the SEC East twice in football and their basketball is not too shabby.

Correct. It's why the Big 12 should add UH when/if they expand. UH brings decent hoops and football programs, as a bonus.

The key factor was that Rutgers and Maryland grads all know the difference between were, where, and we’re.

Maryland made some sense... they are sometimes decent in football and pretty good in basketball, and gives them access to parts of the DC market as well.
Rutgers was 100 percent about access to the NY/NJ tv market. That's it. Never was about being competitive.

Bingo. If there is a school in market, then everyone in that market or state (or whatever) pays a higher tier rate. So it doesn't matter if anyone even watches the channel out there, the conference is making a shitload more money. Why do people continue to not understand that?

They already were moving to the ACC and signed to move in 2011
