I talked to old State Trooper one day, they didn’t even had radios in their cop cars in his day.He said he went on patrol with roll of nickels, stopped every hour at pay phone.Would call headquarters to see if there were any wrecks he needed to respond to.Hard to imagine.

I was thinking about that the other day. It happens pretty often you’re on your way to X city but the interstate exit that says that city’s name isn’t the actual one your map says you’re getting off on. Must have been confusing before GPS.

And then on regular streets? It seems like it would be hard when out of town.

If people didn’t answer their land line it wasn’t out of the ordinary for friends or family members to just get in their car and drop by. Totally different world.

Pay phones. It sucked when they went from a quarter to 35 cents

I don't remember that. I remember them going from a dime to a quarter, though.

My dad doesn’t call anyone and just tries to drop by if he wants to visit. Then he will have the nerve to get pissy if you’re not home. Just call me!

Landline, pay phone or face to face. The best of times.

There was great liberty in nit being in touch with work or home instantaneously

But pay phones were how you called home or work if you weren't at the house

If you were a kid, you rode your bike around until you found the friend's house with all of the bikes laying in the yard. That's where everyone was hanging that day.

If you were in college and weren't around when plans were made, you'd go from bar to bar to see where everyone was.

If you were in business and on the road, you'd carry rolls of coins, call into the office or your service from pay-phones, and check your messages.
