I can’t seem to figure out how to set up a routine with predefined commands. For example, currently I have to say “Alexa, tell alarm dot com to arm stay”

What I’d like to do is define that command and be able to add it to a routine. So when I say “Alexa, good night” she does a few things including doing the command that I predefined. I added the alarm.com skill to the routine but all that does is open the skill and she asks me what I want to do. I’m trying to streamline it a bit. Any ideas?

Why don’t you just ask the CIA operative listening on to please turn your lights off and lock the door when he is done snooping around

"Alexa, I want everything my family says in the cloud forever. I understand I am giving up my privacy wholly as a private citizen and am paying to do so. I am willing to allow all of this to happen if you can flush my toilet and possibly wipe my butt."

I actually did this awhile ago when I had Alarm.com. Try to look up my thread on it.

I always laugh at these comments. Your phone, tv, and several other devices are always listening to you...whether you think so or not

That’s my whole point. It’s why it’s a funny comment

Thats just not true. I don't have a smart tv and I don't have Siri turned on at all so I have no voice activated devices in my house. I do suppose I am vulnerable to things that nefariously would listen in outside of their claims but I have done my due diligence to not be spied on. I certainly don't just throw my hands up and buy a wiretap from a slimy company like Amazon because other devices could be susceptible.

Laugh it up. I know I'll be ridiculed but will post it as a warning to all to go in setting of every device and social media and appropriately protect yourself as much as possible.

When it comes to an Echo/Alexa, I have such a mistrust for Amazon and their business practices I would never recommend it or trust them regardless of your settings.

We do this.
When I say, “Alexa, goodnight,” the tv and Apple TV come on, thermostat drops to 69, her lamp to 50% and mine off, box fan comes on.

Just open the Alexa app.
Menu
Routines
Add routine
‘When this happens’ - set your phrase
‘Add action’ - select smart home
Go from there

alarm.com is not a smart home option for me.

You do realize phones were listening BEFORE Siri, right?

That's actually pretty freakin' cool. The ol' lady has a Echo Dot that she occasionally uses to listen to music. I spout random stuff at it just too see if it shows up when I'm on Amazon. So far I haven't had to explain why giant purple dildos are in the wish list so I'm not convinced it is really spying on me.

That maybe true, but Amazon is the only one that sends us spam trying to sell stuff, after communicating with Alexa.
