Amendment 1 would ?prohibit ?property ?taxes ?on ?raw ?materials, ?goods, ?commodities ?and ?articles ?stored ?for ?maintenance ?if ?destined ?for ?the ?Outer ?Continental ?Shelf. ?
quote:
Amendment 2 would allow the Education Excellence Fund to finance three more schools. The schools that would gain financing are Thrive Academy in Baton Rouge, the LSU Laboratory School, and the Southern University Laboratory School.
quote:
Amendment 3 would give Louisiana's Board of Tax Appeals the ability to determine whether issues related to taxes and fees are constitutional. This is not a power normally granted to departments in the executive branch; however, many states have similar rules in place in an attempt to expedite the appeals process.

Amendment 4 would allow full or partial residential property tax exemptions for certain housing developments in New Orleans. Specifically, affordable housing developments with fewer than 15 units would be eligible for the exemption

On #3, most tax cases go there already, it's a faster remedy, you can choose for your case to go there or not and I believe rulings can be appealed to the State SC (not 100% sure on the last part though).

The way I read it is a yes vote gives more power to the tax appeals board. I am not a fan of giving more power to appointed positions.

The way I'm understanding it, you now how multiple ways, through the court or the board, to contend that a tax is unconstitutional.

I refuse to vote yes on any more constitutional amendments.

YES, why tax goods headed offshore, another parish assessor money grab
YES just adding three school to existing fund. The three schools did not exist when fund started
YES the tax board is more knowledgeable and faster than courts, if you don't like the outcome you can still go to court
NO New Orleans politicians in charge of who gets property tax breaks? a recipe for disaster

I voted "Yes" for all except #4. I saw it was being promoted by the NOLA mayor. That was enough to convince me it was probably a bad idea.
