Cut whatever spending...just use it to lower the income tax more not the sales tax (bitching about sales tax is dumb since it's the only thing takers pay).
Cut all the credits the governor proposed cutting but legislature kept (like movie) and get the income tax lower!

quote:
"Why would it take that long to re-run those transmission lines?
Uhhhh"
The quote from the JP guy was vague. If it is just the lines down in the river then it won't take long to run new lines (they did that after Gustav in like 7-8 days and theoretically should be better prepared this time).
If the towers literally collapsed then it could be an extensive time. I don't know where those towers are, but unless they are in Lower Coastal parishes these wind speeds should not have exceeded their design parameters, unless there was a tornado or Entergy screwed up.
Their initial post-Laura estimate for constructing new towers (they did collapse) over the Sabine River was 2 months. They did it in 23 days with an extraordinary special team and helicopters and all kinds of stuff.
However, the Mississippi River would have to be a much larger technical/engineering feat due to the size and commercial needs. They always over-estimate, but that would be a big job.

"Best case scenario. Lake Charles was out 3-4 weeks if I remember correctly and outlying areas even longer after Laura
28 days during a brutal heat wave."
The wind in New Orleans itself was more aligned with the wind in Vernon Parish.
The wind toward Lockport and Cutoff was consistent with the wind in Lake Charles.
Even in Houma (west eye) was more consistent with Laura's wind over in Vinton.
It will be difficult, but those small 10-20 mile jogs make a big difference in damage on the ground. Obviously Lower Jefferson, Lafourche, Terrebonne, Plaquemines, etc. is a different story.

Wednesday: "La Supreme Court needs some judges with sense and Bernette Johston needs to retire or go away or something. (Unfortunately I think we may be stuck with her for a while)."
Justice Johnson is aged out and there will be an open race for her seat next year. The district is the City of New Orleans, so there won't be a philosophy change, but there will be a new Justice.
