Youtube TV
con: $50 a month
pros: you can have up to 6 separate family accounts. I share it with my sister and it costs $25 month. In theory, I could get it down to $10 month if I had more family. She can't see what I watch & record and vice-versa.
other cons:
-no local ABC in NOLA anymore (you need an antenna and can't dvr ABC games/shows)
-no NFLN
other pros:
-unlimited dvr-ing. Any or all shows can be recorded and saved for a year. Every single broadcast.
-seamlessness of signing into YTtv on your or anybody's computer or device and having access to that local game you are recording while you are out of town or in another state that isn't being broadcast nationally while you are on a vacation is a lifesaver.
-never had a buffering issue. Easy to fastforward thru commercials or rewind to the beginning of recorded shows. (Not 15 sec increments) While a game you are recording is on, you can hit play from start or just go straight to live action, and zip back & forth if you choose to

That was going to be my question: I don't have a smart tv, so what add on do I need to play the youtube app? Apparently firestick is not currently an option.

I've had Hulu Live, Vue, and YouTube TV. Vue is my favorite but costs the most at $55. Hulu buffers the most, YouTube TV has the best DVR, Vue has the best looking picture and NFL Network. I'm currently with Vue on a promotional rate but I'll switch back to YouTube TV when it's over because it has a great native app built into my smart TV.

When you drop cable and your internet provider is also your cable provider.
I have AT&T.
Do they begin to charge for data.
I believe my company only gives unlimited data when you pay for cable.
I have 3 teens so we use a lot of data.

I dropped cable with Comcast in August for YouTube TV but kept my internet with Comcast. We haven't been charged for data yet, but my oldest kid is only 2.5 so we may not have used enough to get dinged for it

I have Sling, its nothing special, but i've never had a problem with buffering or picture.
DirectTV NOW is by far the best option if you're willing to spend a little more. You might need a smart TV for that though im not sure. Its awesome not having a box or any wires. Plus you can download all the other stations apps and just go to those on your DirectTV account and stream from there if you want to watch all the shows that station has to offer instead of DVRing it.

Comcast offered me their streaming app at a pretty low price when I cut my cable. I didn't even know anything about it, but from what I gather it sounds similar to this DirectTV NOW you are talking about

I didnt know cable offered one but probably so. If they dont start offering it then they are going to lose out on some business.
I got the lowest plan and you can pick your stations from there so you dont have a ton of useless channels.
Its like no matter what service you use now the price per month gets more than you'd like Once you add Netflix, Amazon, etc. I dropped Hulu though.

It's on the firestick now

I thought they were negotiating this. Do you know if/when we'll get local ABC in NOLA?

I've had Vue for a few years now and I see no reason to switch services.

With YouTube TV I can watch my unlimited recordings on my phone at any time. Can also schedule recordings on my phone when I realized I forgot to do it. Not sure if Sling allows that so may want to check it out.

We had ABC for a short time.
When I first signed up with YTtv, there was no ABC. Then one day, it was on the channel guide and everything was wonderful. Then some time this past summer, no more ABC.
You’d think with all the Disney/ESPN channels on YTtv, ABC would be one of the local network staples.

Someone educate me on how to get YouTube TV please. This app has to already be on a device I purchase to use correct. Me and the wife still like renting a movie from RedBox so I got a new wireless Blu Ray player. It had the YouTube app but not YouTube TV. Would a firestick fix this? It would have to have the app already on it correct? Someone told me the only way I can get it is to hook a Google Chromecast?

I had Sling and didn’t really like it. It seemed slow and the selection wasn’t great. I have Hulu Live and I really like it. Local channels and tons of sports channels. I get all the ESPN channels plus ACC, Big 10 and SEC. I can watch pretty much any game on Saturdays.

I liked sling until I read this thread, and switched to YouTube TV, which is far superior.

Didn’t care for Sling, you tube has better channels

I don’t use more than 2 streams, or 50 DVR hours.
It just works REALLY well and I’ve had every service expect YouTube TV
It’s reliable, and it’s a very good deal comparatively

had Sling a few years ago for a couple months. Maybe it’s better now. For me, it was clunky and often lost connection. I have fast internet and no problems with any other streaming service. I like to flip around channels and Sling was too clunky and slow to make that possible.
