Can we make a case to expand the college football playoffs this year?

I think we can agree that we have the most parity in college football this year for the first time since 2014 (which itself was a great year because of all the non traditional powers doing so well). This year, it appears that there are around 7 or 8 great teams in college football, rather than the Bama, Clemson and everyone else narrative we’ve had the last few years. If the playoff has Clemson, Bama, tOSU and OU, will the left out SEC teams make enough noise for the playoff to expand? I think it’s a possibility and it would be great for college football. We should have a playoff system like every other incarnation of football. It would generate more revenue and excitement I think. Anyway I was kind of rambling but do y’all think this season could be a good case for expansion down the line?

Maybe we let the season play out beyond week 5?

Well that's just absurd. How are we supposed to overreact if we do that?

No it’s week 5.
Some teams haven’t even played 2 conference games yet

Too early to tell. 4 teams still might separate themselves a bit and it works out. I generally not opposed to a bigger playoff but this season has barely gotten started.

TCU in 2014 will always be my case for expanding the playoffs. Pretty firm believer they were the second best team behind OSU that year.

Maybe Oklahoma is way better than everyone else and will win every game by 30 points, including the playoffs.
You don't need parity to change a broken system. You currently have a system where 6 teams in the P5/ND can be undefeated at the end of the year. If you have 5 top 25 teams in each conference (just for hypothetical purposes) then you now have the top team beating 4 top 25 teams so they almost have the same strength of record.
The committee chooses 4 teams. It's been a dumb system since it started. Yea it's better, but it's not good

Can we make a case to do away with the bullshite and go back to the bcs?

A 12-13 game sample size is not enough to pick the 4 teams out of 130.

It'll all shake out and there wont be more the 4 teams worthy in the end just like every year. Really, there are typically only 2 or 3.

It definitely is. Most of the semi final games are blowouts. You think there's a need to do more of that?

I mean if you choose the wrong teams to start with then yes. There was an argument (as stated above) that TCU got hosed in 2014. Looking back, you could argue both TCU and Baylor belonged in the playoff more than defending champ and undefeated FSU.

Holy shite, how quickly people forget how terrible that was
"We now have a true national champion and the playoff has gotten it right every time, but let's go back to when the best teams didn't battle it out on the field directly"
AWESOME IDEA

It is when there are 4-6 who are clearly the best teams in the country at week 13.
Not to mention, this year is likely going to be the easiest ever.
- The Pac 12 is likely already out completely
- There is no non-Power 5 team that is going to challenge for a spot
- The rest of the top is big dogs in the same conferences who will take each other out and make it clear who deserves to be in

The BCS era will easily be college footballs apex when it's all done. It's starting a downward spiral. It only didn't get it right maybe 2 years. Other than that it has been far superior to the playoff era and actually had different schools competing for championships almost every year.

Please explain in more detail how the BCS era was better, in your opinion. And explain how you know the BCS "got it right" when it only took the top 2 teams (in the minds of the committee).
Before you answer, I will say that I personally want to see the best teams fighting it out for the national championship, even if it's at the expense of traditional bowl games and/or matchups (which the playoff still does a good job of maintaining to a large degree), and even if it means it's two or more teams from the same conference.
I'll hang up and listen.

I think we should expand to 8 teams and keep it there
