I’ve been a fan of going to the five power 5 winners with three at large. Clemson and Alabama won’t like it because even they could drop a game to a pretty subpar team that might make it in on any given year. I think you would have to work out some byes for the higher seeds. You’re also adding games so maybe taking away one non conference game and adding bye weeks come into effect. There are some legitimate problems with doing it.

However I do think it would add some more interesting games. I think you see teams add bigger more interesting non conference games since all you really need to do anyway is win your conference.

I think 4 is fine, but if they expanded, this makes the most sense to me.

I'm pretty sure Bama would love being able to lose 2 games a year and still never missing the playoffs.

6 makes a lot of sense but people won’t ever be satisfied until it’s 16 or 65 and we have 4 loss teams in the playoff

You think its bad right now that Bama or Clemson have to lose 2 in order to miss the playoff? Just wait until its expanded to 8 teams. OSU, OU, Bama, Clemson will be shoe-ins every year moving forward...

You’re right, but we can point to literally every other level of football above and below Division I where they have more than four teams in a playoff.

Those divisions play every game except for the championship in one of the two team's stadiums. They do not have contracts that span many years and which are heavily negotiated (in fact many of those games are not televised at all). This is not to say that the playoff won't expand in the future.
