In the TIME article they state:
Their reference link goes to another article. Then only through that second article do you actually find the research. And what you find is that 50% of those parents that are "steering their kids to activities associated with the opposite sex" actually just selected that it was "somewhat good". That's a very vague selection. Also they don't specify what "activities". For example, It's probably somewhat good that a young girl learns to throw a football.
If you want to know how the American public really feels you have to look at another question IN THAT VERY SURVEY TIME CITES:
So that folks is how you cherry pick data courtesy of the fake news media
