I don’t care about Jeff Landry. I’m unsure why you keep using that as some calling card. My guess is because you know JBE is going to win

Do I think Jeff Landry is unqualified for his position? Yeah. He didn’t have one published appellate decision before his election. Ultimately, he hasn’t done anything to get me fired up.

Rispone is running away with that online poll.

And it's not just a Baton Rouge website poll. I've seen all the newstations put a link to it on twitter under a different name but it goes to the same poll.

and yet there are still less than thousand votes in the poll which means that not many people watched the debate.

Toll lanes and toll roads. Florida has them. Texas has them and they have great roads. The toll lanes on I-95 in Miami were every penny that I had to pay while I was living there

Those will pay for the new roads and bridges to be built.

Does nothing for the thousands of miles of shite roads and failing bridges TD that already exist.

click the most recent poll link that Boat posted. It has it on there now.

ETA: You have to click on their homepage and then click on the main story to get to it. So here is the replay. Could the OP please add it to the OP?

I dunno. I read his position as he just wants to make sure that we are “tax neutral.” So he’s fine with raising the gas tax so long as overall rates remain the same as they are. . . Not sure how that is in any way an anti tax position

I am speaking about myself.

Being against increasing the fuel tax in unrealistic. Abraham was trying to walk on the knife edge and sounded dumb.

Agreed.

Not to mention what raising a gas tax would do to the overall price of goods and services produced by Louisiana.

Even if it were somehow “tax neutral” (which is a moronic position for an alleged conservative to take) it could still provide substantial cost to the state economy overall.

I’m voting Rispone, and Abraham only if necessary.

It frees up money to be spent elsewhere. The main problem is how much we spend in projects. Contractors come in and say that we have poor soil and that it is going to cost $X and the LaDOT just writes them a check. Everything south of Orlando and west of I-95 is built on soil similar to ours. The Florida turnpike is completely paid for by tolls and from Orlando to just north of Fort Lauderdale it runs across the everglades. Hell the entire country of the Netherlands has worse soil than we do, has better roads, and they spend less per mile than Louisiana does. I am not buying it. LaDOT just hands out money like a drunk virgin in a strip club.

You think the contractors who come into Louisiana to build roads don’t need diesel while they are here building shite?

That’s one of the most expensive aspects of construction. Still Confused re: your gas tax thoughts . . . But I am perfectly fine with toll roads. Particularly if we use one to build a freaking loop around Baton Rouge

One thing that Abraham said troubles me. He claims that any tax passed including the fuel tax would be tax neutral meaning other taxes would have to be cut. Sounds good, BUT then he says he would pass the fuel tax FIRST then cut other taxes. How many times have we seen republicans give conditional concessions to democrats and then they renege on the conditions because they got what they wanted already.

Enough to drop $10 million of his own money into a race knowing very well that he could lose, and it having the same effect on his financial well being as most people get when they find a $20 in the dryer.

You do know that all those diesel machines are using tax free diesel don't you?

Still Confused re: your gas tax thoughts .

My thoughts are no new taxes until every other option has been tried. That includes new sources of revenue like toll lanes but also spending money more effectively like do not build a bridge across the river in the wrong place or do not spend money to repave a road that sees maybe 500 cars per day in rural Louisiana with asphalt which costs $6-18 per square yard when the chipseal method that cost $0.75 per yard ( costs of repaving vs chipseal). The Audubon Bridge is a great bridge and the road by my lake house is nice but the chipseal surface that was there before was working just fine for a fraction of the cost.

That is just one example of what I am talking about when I say build things more efficiently. How much money has the state spent studying a loop around BR? It is not just the contractors that the LaDOTD is giving money away to. Clean house at LaDOTD, explore all the options of finding savings and new revenue and if we still need to raise tax then I will think about supporting it.

Rubbish. If you have ANY conservative leanings, Rispone is your huckleberry. Drastically different governing mindset than JBE.

Based on what? Every answer he gave tonight was “yeah I’m a businessman. Run it like a business. More jobs so more revenue. Business. Outsider. Business”

Sounds like JBE four years ago.

I was really surprised at how weak Rispone was on the ITEP issue - sounded like he would let locals continue to extort businesses.

After rewatching, it’s clear that Abraham’s strategy was to go after Edwards and use the modern “sound bite” strategy. He had set sound bites that he wanted to say and just plugged them in where appropriate.
He was making a commercial up there last night
