I was really surprised at how weak Rispone was on the ITEP issue - sounded like he would let locals continue to extort businesses.
Here’s why locals should be involved. The program affects property tax collections and property taxes are paid at the local level and not to the state.
The previous system wasn’t good, and the current system is a mess. We need to reform the entire tax code and ITEP is a part of that.

You really want the mental midgets on the Baton Rouge Metro Council making multi-billion dollar decisions? I certainly don’t.

No but I don’t want someone paying off the governor and getting their deal done either.

One thing that Abraham said troubles me. He claims that any tax passed including the fuel tax would be tax neutral meaning other taxes would have to be cut. Sounds good, BUT then he says he would pass the fuel tax FIRST then cut other taxes.
No he said that in order for him to pass a bill from the legislature that raises the fuel tax they would also have to get rid of a tax or else he would not sign it.

How many times have we seen republicans give conditional concessions to democrats and then they renege on the conditions because they got what they wanted already.
You do realize that the soft GOP members that caved to the dems in the state senate are termed out and the legislature is about to get a hell of a lot more conservative that it has been in the past.
