Doberman Ear Cutting

Just a doberman pup, he's 11 weeks right now. Brought him to the vet today and was told the cartilage was already broken and wouldn't be a good idea to get them cut at this point. Any opinions on this? and any recommendations for ear cutting around BR?

Why not let him have his natural ears? I'm not a peta fig, but I couldn't take a puppy to a vet and say "cut this or that off of it". That includes balls.

My dog as a child was a Doberman. Had cut ears. I loved her.
Buried all my dogs since then and it’s been about 15 years since I’ve had one but if I ever do again it will be a Doberman.

I think they can hear just fine if they're uncut.

Same here.
Grew up with Dobermans and always had their ears cropped.
Next dog will be a Doberman, but doing it thru a Doberman rescue.

I thought about that and ALMOST got one from on here, but realized I had too much on my plate with little babies and being a single dad.
But I think I want a puppy. Eventually. Once all the pieces fall in place. And i’ll Name it Sturm or Drang.
Eta: Unless I find an animal with one eye. I will take any animal that’s lost an eye or is born without one. It’s fate.

I am hoping to find a Blue.
The rescues around the DC area seem to have a lot of six month olds, but no eight week olds.

The cartilage was broken? I’ve never heard of that before. You may want a second opinion. I’m not saying the vet was wrong, but that’s new to me. My MIL was a breeder for a few years and this never came up with her pups. I have one now, very cool dogs.

Please don’t get a dog, or any more dogs if you already have one.

These baws complaining about cutting a Doberman’s ears are the same baws that are the first in line to circ their kids

I have a Doberman mix dumpster dog with her ears and tail intact. She’s beautiful.

The dobermans, cane corso’s, etc had cut ears bc they were inside guardian dogs.
A cut ear helped them hear sounds bouncing off the walls much better. Their nail pads sit on the top of their feet and don’t click on the floors. Tails are docked so it doesn’t hit the walls while they silently move through the house as well.
This is what these dogs were bred to do, cropping their ears is just fine.
