I think the value is fair from the Steelers side, but the timing is questionable.

if they still had Roethlisberger... I'd think this would be a good move
but now... just after losing Roethlisberger... this is a mistake in my book
the Steelers aren't going to be very good this season... they're going to be a top of the draft team

this seems like a dumb frickin trade.
The Steelers are 0-2 with Mason Rudolph at QB. 7-9 would be a good season at this point. Why give away a top 15, possibly top 10 pick?
Fitzpatrick may be a good safety, but damn. Is he really going to move the needle enough to warrant not getting a first round QB this year.
Big Ben will be 38 next year and coming off elbow surgery.

They have Fitzpatrick on a rookie salary through 2022. Yea you lose the year that he played but at least you know you're getting a boom and not a bust

Maybe they planned on going CB in the 1st and determined that Fitzpatrick was better than any option they could have gotten. Sometimes they think these trades through
