Can anyone school me on these "budget" phone services? Are they worth it?

Services like Mint Mobile, Google Fi, and Cricket all offer comparable service for ~$25 a month. I'm on verizon right now and paying almost $200 a month for two lines, so if we could cut that down a ton I'd be all for it.
How does the coverage really compare? Is it too good to be true? I live near nicholson/bluebonnet if anyone has specific experience in that area also.

I use total wireless that is on the Verizon network. $60 a month for 2 lines talk text and 30 gb.
The service is great. Never really noticed and deprioritization or anything.

I've been using StraightTalk for years. They have a bring your own phone program where you can just swap out the sim card. It mostly uses the Sprint network, though some model phones use Verizon. I've never had a problem with coverage.

My buddy who is on cricket has very, very slow data speeds.

Total Wireless
I just switch from ATT to total wireless. The coverage is actually better than ATT. My other work phone is verizon and I can't tell any difference between the 2. I was paying ~95/ month for 9gb on ATT (2 lines), now I pay ~$65 and get 30gbs.
No brainer for me... wish i would have done it sooner

I'm on Consumer Cellular which uses ATT backbone. For two lines with unlimited voice / text + 20 Gb of data per month we pay a tad over $50. Coming from being on ATT directly, I can't tell the difference except in my wallet.

I've been on cricket for a couple years now, I don't have a problem with data speeds. I stream movies often.

Fi is on Sprint or T-Mobile, so if those networks are good where you are you should be OK. Sprint is usually solid along interstates and in big cities, so I've never had issues traveling. In some areas, Sprint is horrible, though, but I came from Sprint so I'm used to that issue.

You get 6gb of data from Verizon (then 2g speeds) for $35/month. This is straight Verizon Prepaid. Not a bad deal for the service quality. You can use the data for Hotspot as well which Total Wireless does not include

That's with equipment charges right? High dollar ones?
I pay about $200 for five lines on Verizon.

Like other posters, changed to Total Wireless 2+ years ago from VZW. Getting 30 GBs for $57.xx for 2 phones, S8 and I-6. If you have already paid for your phones all you need is new SIM cards from Total Wireless and port your numbers over. I think Walmart has the TW SIMs, but they will mail them to you if preferred. Tracfone owns TW. Been all over the country, same HQ service as with VZW. Don't know if 5G will be made available in the future when it is rolled out, but not a concern to me at this time.

I had Sprint for over 20 years. I switched to Mint around the first of the year. I will renew again at $150 for 6 months @ 8GB. When I am home I make all my calls over WIFI anyway. Sprint could not touch that. Anytime the service has not been as good as Sprint I just remind myself of the cost.

I went from ATT with two lines paying a little more than with the phone cost as well. Swapped to Tmobile. Paying $115 (got a XR for free with monthly credit) and have my netflix included.
So while not all the way down budget style still a massive cut. And well worth it.

Verizon and AT&T contracts are bloated and costly for no good reason.
Switch to Cricket asap and never look back.
