Dave Chappelle's Latest Netflix Special Is Offending To Critics

Comedian Dave Chappelle’s latest stand-up comedy special, “Sticks and Stones,” premiered on Netflix last week — and it immediately faced a firestorm of criticism for its jokes.
Many of the jokes were perceived as tone-deaf and hurtful, particularly those which used various groups of people as punchlines, such as women, sexual assault victims, Asians and members of the LGBTQ community — transgender people in particular.
Many characterized these jokes as gratuitously cruel. Will this round of criticism affect his career negatively, and will Netflix, which paid $60 million in 2016 for five stand-up specials from the comedian, lose subscribers as a result?
If the critics alone are anything to go by, both Chappelle and Netflix may have reason to worry.
Inkoo Kang of Slate compared “Sticks and Stones” to “dropping in on a rascally uncle who doesn’t know, or doesn’t care, how much he’s disappointing you… his jokes make you wince.” Garrett Martin of Paste said that the show “is terrible not because audiences have changed, but because Chappelle himself is so thoroughly out of touch with today.” Martin pulled no punches when he wrote simply, ”‘Sticks and Stones’ is terrible, and Chappelle can only blame himself for that.”
Despite this critical response, family and relationship therapist Fran Walfish said that it’s unlikely the comedian will pay any price for it. She chalked that up to ignorance about the LGBTQ community on the part of the general public.

When his latest special first came out (what? 2 weeks ago), it seemed like there were a lot of critics wanting to hurt the special's ratings, which I thought was obvious because it is fricking hilarious.
What I don't understand is that they mention he makes fun of Asians.. He is married to an Asian woman.
He is an equal shot taker. He makes fun of everybody. He is a comedian. If you are going to get offended then why even watch comedy?

How do I punch someone through a computer screen?

He literally went after everyone

Watching it reminded me of what comedy used to be and how is been completely ruined by wokeness.
I thoroughly enjoy laughing at others and myself and Chapelle made me do both. Screw the critics.

Screw a society where a comedian can’t even tell jokes without the triggering.

Not to take away from his act b/c I think he is a great comedian. But all the outrage brought in quite a lot of views for him I’m sure. Good for him, I hope his next stand up act is even more “politically incorrect.”

Anyone bitching about Chapelle being offensive obviously didn’t pay attention when he did 2.5 seasons of Chapelle Show and made fun of anything and everything.

The special was awesome.
But you should be pushed off a cliff into a giant jello mold

What the frick is this bullshite? Dave is very in touch with the times, and his comedy is very poignant. It has been like that for a while now. In fact, one of the reasons the new special is so great (and it is) is because of just how on the head he hits the nail in terms of society today and some of the issues with it.
And lastly, it’s fricking comedy. It is supposed to make fun of things, people, issues, etc. Sometimes it is supposed to offend. It is supposed to make you think. And it won’t be for everyone.
This writer can kick rocks with his holier than thou bullshite. He can dislike the special and not think it’s funny. That’s fine. But just chalk it up to you not liking Dave’s brand of comedy. But don’t attack it when you clearly seem to have missed most of the point of what he was saying anyway.
This world is full of idiots.

Anyone a fan of Andrew Schulz? He sort of has this... I guess "campaign" going to fight against the easily offended.. And for comedians to not get criticised for... being comedians.
He has a podcast called Brilliant Idiots. Its him and this black dude and they were talking about how they thought this was a big deal because Chappelle went out didn't give a single frick.
They had other people on and I think he was the only white dude. He made a few fried chicken jokes (which was a result of them talking about the Popeye's chicken sandwich). He said a few things, one was something like "you want to get back people to register to vote, go stand outside of a Popeye's when they bring the chicken sandwiches back". All the back dude were cracking up..
That's what comedians do. If they take that away from comedy then what do you really have?

I hear Eddie Murphy is going on the "Hold my Beer tour"..I am joking about the name..If the critics are upset with Chappelle I would imagine they will be pissed with Eddie.

I wouldn’t get my hopes up. Eddie doesn’t like to talk about a lot of the jokes he did in Delirious and Raw that helped cement him as a comedy icon.

what they don’t understand (the SJWs) is it is they who are out of touch. They think the world gives a shite about their trigger warnings and safe spaces and preferred pronouns when the VAST majority of people think their “woke” bullshite is utterly ridiculous and just want to go back to a time where you could laugh at anything and anyone.
No more sacred cows
